Ukraine is taking all measures to free Ukrainian journalist Anhar Kochneva who is illegally held in Syria, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has said.
"Ukraine again expresses its deep concern over the situation around Anhar Kochneva who is illegally held in Syria by a group, which calls itself a division of the Free Syrian Army. The Ukrainian side is taking all measures to release the Ukrainian woman both at the state level, including in cooperation with its international partners, and with the involvement of public and religious organizations," the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry said: "Ukraine warns individuals and groups who are holding Kochneva that if they use the methods of physical or other influence against her, which hurt her health or life, an inevitable consequence for all those involved in such actions will be their full responsibility for committing this crime."

As reported, the kidnappers of Ukrainian journalist Anhar Kochneva threatened to kill her on Thursday, December 13, if their demands for a $50 million ransom are not met.
In a video, released on November 28, she made a short statement in Arabic, in which she says that her reason for being in Syria was to act as a translator for "Russian intelligence." European journalists' organisations, including the Russian Union of Journalists, believe she was pressured to read that text.

On November 8, a video with the kidnapped journalist was posted on the Web site of the Free Syrian Army. In the video that lasts 15 seconds, she said in Arabic: "My name is Anhar. I'm located in Homs now, and I urge the Ukrainian and the Russian Embassy, and also the Syrian government, to fulfill the kidnappers' demands."
People need to remember there are many sides that make up the FSA, there only uniting goal being the removal of Al-Assad. Hell, even the Taliban are on the "good" side
that's sick
50 million? That's way too high anyway.
Time to send in the sas or whatever the Ukrainian special forces are called
Oh look at that Mr Assad forever alone. Looks like he should just give up being president so someone else can become a president of Syria, and stop murdering people. :v:
He's turning into Muammar Gaddafi.

The S.A.S are British...
Time to send in the sas or whatever the Ukrainian special forces are called
I thought that after all the CoD shit and over the top British accents and stereotypes everyone knew the S.A.S was British.
If anything is sent (most likely not) it would be GROM.

Why GROM.
The S.A.S are British...
Hence why he said 'or whatever the Ukrainian special forces are called'.
I don't know the callsigns of all the special forces in the world either, although I presume most of Facepunch probably does.
Why GROM.
Actually scratch that, I just read more on the subject.
S.A.S already has a unit just outside of syria incld. some NATO forces, so they'd be the ones to do it.

Iceland is an island bro. Ukraine borders the western side of Russia.
Why am I getting boxes?
I don't actually know who this girl is, but why the fuck is she worth the trouble? I sure as hell wouldn't spend $50m, or waste money to send in a force to save this girl. but then again, I don't actually know who she is.

Because governments are generally supposed to care about their citizens? Surely if you were captured and held hostage, and everyone knew about it, you'd expect your government to try and help you, right?

Because she's you know, a fucking human being, you know the whole idea is that people care about their loved one and thus wish to save them by any means.
You know, like how people feel about people they like and stuff.
Fucking dumbass.

Ukraine isn't exactly the kind of country that is able to help her beyond diplomacy.
I'd think it might be ALPHA, if I remember correctly they are the counter terrorist branch of the spetsnaz.
And I'd imagine that Ukraine would do one of three things: Go in guns blazing or urge another country to free their journalist, pay off the debt and then slaughter all of the people once they can't hide behind a human sheild, or just not give two fucks at all and continue with their business.

It's Afghanistan all over again. Just without America and the Soviets this time.

Alfa is Russian
Alfa is Russian
I think he is saying they'd be the ones to do it, since Ukraine is pretty much engulfed in Russia's sphere of influence.
Far Cry 4 storyline?

Ukraininan speacial forces are called Kossacs
I dont think many people will get the joke but w/e
Time to send in the sas or whatever the Ukrainian special forces are called
I heard their politicians are good at unarmed combat.
They should send them instead.
Well, deadline passed. So either this group has executed her or they're bullshitting.
If not even America is willing to negotiate with terrorists then somehow I doubt Ukraine of all places is going to pay the ransom for a random journalist. I hope she somehow makes it out of this okay.
Execute Syrian rebel group if the ransom which is USA's debt isn't paid :v:
Has there been any information if the kidnappers went ahead with their threat, or is she still okay?
