Hi guys, my sister has asked me to find a new laptop for her - since her current machine is now 7 years old. I know a little about this kind of thing but not enough to be able to just pick something out myself. She's given me a list of requirements which shouldn't be too hard to meet:
-Middle-price range (Nothing too pricey but nothing too cheap either - we want something sturdy that will last) - I'm thinking probably £400-£650
-Usage: All she will use the laptop for is light office work - word processing, spreadsheets, email, etc (Nothing CPU or graphics intensive like Photoshop or movie-editing), and of course browsing the web, watching catch-up TV, using iTunes
-Weight: Preferably not a great brick, something she can carry around but...
-Medium-sized screen (14/15 inches), so not an ultrabook or something tiny
She doesn't care about touchscreens and one more thing I'd add is that having a DVD-drive would also be great, it's much less of a faff than getting an external one. Also obviously the longer the battery lasts the better.
If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated, even if it's just to say 'this range is good' or 'this manufacturer has some good models'
tl,dr: looking for a 14/15 inch medium sized machine with DVD drive for light office work/internet browsing
Something like this might fit your bill. i3-5010U, 4gb ram (can upgrade to 8gb), 1080p screen, WiFi AC. Basically an ultrabook with dvd drive.

(though it's 15.6 inches)
Recently acquired this exact one and shoved the HDD into a drive caddy to replace the dvd drive and added an SSD for main drive (hardly use cd/dvds anymore). Pretty sure it will last me for ages.

Thanks Craptasket! I'll show her that model and see what she thinks
