I recently watched Fight club for the first time and it was the best movie i have ever seen. [sp]Except i dont really understand the ending and how Tyler died if anyone understands could you please inform me because i am baffled[/sp]
Spoiler tag that for godsake!
spoiler tags are [sp]spoiler content[/sp] [sp]I don't understand how he died either, I'm guess it's because the protagonist tried to trick Durden into thinking he was going to blow his brains out, which would also kill Durden.[/sp]
[sp]The reason Tyler is there in the first place is to help the Narrator stop being such a pussy so when he shoots himself it's like telling himself he doesn't need Tyler anymore. Or Tyler was the result of a brain tumor which got removed by the bullet. The former is more likely though.[/sp]
Shit movie. There's nothing more to it really.
Shit movie. There's nothing more to it really.
I completely disagree. This is one of my favourite movies and I'm sure it's a lot of other people's favourite, too.
I completely disagree. This is one of my favourite movies and I'm sure it's a lot of other people's favourite, too.
Disagree as much as you wish, it doesn't change the fact that Fight club is only popular because the vast majority of 12-year olds consider excessive, unnecessary violence and a lack of story to be good entertainment.

It's one of the best movies ever made if you consider the score on IMDb. It's in 16th place on their top 250 list. http://www.imdb.com/chart/top

I agree that it is extremely overhyped, but you couldn't be more ignorant in your observations.
YOU DON'T TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB. You guys are breaking the rules...
yeah from that description i really doubt it i hate to sound like a typical pretentious teen who is in love with fight club but i don't see how you can say it has excessive, and unnecessary violence. first and foremost, there are only a few violent scenes. second of all, the violence it did have wasn't 'unnecessary, if you had paid attention to the plot, if it in with the whole 'self destruction' thing. the message, from what I read into it, was about corporations breeding consumers rather than free thinking people. not a huge revelation to anybody. the story was about [sp]a man who subconsciously created an alter-ego to fulfil his shortcomings[/sp] so i don't understand wait wait aw fuck man im getting trolled [editline]12:32AM[/editline]
spoiler tags are [sp]spoiler content[/sp] [sp]I don't understand how he died either, I'm guess it's because the protagonist tried to trick Durden into thinking he was going to blow his brains out, which would also kill Durden.[/sp]
oh and [sp]Tyler was constantly telling the narrator to 'let go' and to 'hit rock bottom' and only then, would he not NEED Tyler. The act of suicide was ultimate rock bottom. by attempting to take his own life, he hit rock bottom, but also took control of it. he was also metaphorically shooting Tyler (because he is Tyler). in a nutshell.[/sp]
This is one of my favorite novel and movie. The only problem I have with the film is that they took out some good parts from the novel.
Got the blu-ray a few weeks back, watching it again, I'd have to say it's still one of my favourite movies ever. [sp]Tyler was the narrator's imaginary friend that helped him stop being a little bitch, when he realised he didn't need him anymore, he shot himself and killed Tyler[/sp]
Someone spoiled the twist for me before I saw it. Needless to say I was pretty pissed. Even knowing the twist though, it was still a pretty damn good film.
“Self Improvement is masturbation. Now self-destruction is the answer.” My favourite movie of all time. Btw the movie is full of awesome little easter eggs and hints [sp]that tyler is not real[/sp].
Explanation [sp]Tyler is who the narrator wanted to be. He had an alter ego. In other words, he had 2 split personality's.[/sp]
This movie's twist took me 150% by surprise.
[sp]Well in the book he died.[/sp]
[sp]whenever the narrator and tyler were in the same scene, it was actually the narrator in tyler's place, and the narrator you see in the scene is just what the narrator believes to be currently at.[/sp] [editline]03:59AM[/editline] p.s. dicks
Rule #1
Disagree as much as you wish, it doesn't change the fact that Fight club is only popular because the vast majority of 12-year olds consider excessive, unnecessary violence and a lack of story to be good entertainment.
Lack of story? What the fuck?
[sp]Well in the book he died.[/sp]
[sp]No he didn't[/sp]
[sp]The Narrator was bent on killing himself, it was an honest decision. He just got luck and the bullet went through his cheek and didn't kill him. Therefore he lives and Tyler dies.[/sp]
[sp]Tyler died because the real Tyler believed he was going to kill himself, but missed.[/sp]
[sp]Tyler died because the real Tyler believed he was going to kill himself, but missed.[/sp]
[sp]and/or in addition to that, shooting himself was a metaphorical 'fuck you' to Tyler, by physically shooting himself (and thus his alter-ego) he is reinforcing his mental need to 'kill' Tyler. [/sp] plus, good film, it does get overhyped every now and again but there is no denying its edgy ingenuity. I think I first saw it when i was about 10 and obviously didn't get it at all. God knows why I was even watching it. Since then though, become one of my favourites and after seeing it again the other night I appreciate it all the more. Some of the easter eggs and lampshading are brilliant [sp] (like when the main character replies "I still don't know" to Tyler when we return to the opening scene near the end, and Tyler says "Ha. Flashback humour". Love it) [/sp]
nevermind

Explanation and analysis. (English 101 edition).

I don't know why I'm bothering because most of you won't read this anyway, especially Cheezy the Troll. Very minor spoilers. One obvious theme of the movie is the main character's (from now on MC) battle between a materialistic and non-materialistic world. The MC is one who has tried to define himself with material things, as evidenced at the beginning of the movie. In fact, we see the MC wandering through a catalogue; at this point he is a material thing, not a human. The more he becomes materialistic, the more he needs to feel human. Thus, he starts going to groups just to actually feel a basic human emotion. However, this gets tripped up when he meets Marla, who makes him realize that his daily meeting are just as fake as all the other materialistic things in his life. The MC doesn't know how to process this potentially real complex emotion (i.e. love), so he rebels against it. Ultimately, the character Tyler becomes a mechanism to rip the MC from his materialism. At one point, Tyler tells the MC "It's only after you loose everything that you're free to do anything." Remember, this is said during the car crash scene. At the end [sp]when the MC shoots himself, he has lost everything by trying to end his life.[/sp] The character is officially divorced of materialism (supposedly), and is free finally to pursue complex human emotions, like love.
MC? You mean Tyler. The main character is called Tyler.
