Maxthon Scams Its Score In The HTML5Test.com
Thinks that they can outsmart everyone else.
When you start bundling crap with your web browser, you know that there is something fundamentally wrong with your priorities. So, what do you do when you have already lost your dignity and suck at pretty much everything you do? You cheat, obviously.
After claiming that Maxthon scores a total of 467 points in the HTML5Test, Niels Leenheer has found out that this is not exactly the case. In fact, they enabled features that do not actually work, just to boost the meaningless score.
Niels wrote:
Dear @Maxthon, please do not enable webkit features that do not work. I’ve blacklisted your browser on WebGL, getUserMedia and subtitles.
Also @Maxthon please disable these features in the next version (unless they work) or I will remove Maxthon from html5test browser lists.
The latest version of Maxthon scores 422 points on html5test.com instead of 467. If you don’t support features, don’t claim you do!
You guys wanted publicity? Well, here you have it. Good job, Maxthon.
Knobheads
Never even heard of this browser.
Super Fast
Maxthon 3 comes with a browser engine that draws web pages 200% faster than Google Chrome.
Somehow I doubt that
Guest project director Christopher Reeves stepping in.
Who cares? They're still #1, and I understand that this article is attempting to bash them hardcore or something, but apparently they're the fastest browser for html5 so...give them credit where credit is due, they did earn it, being faster than chrome is impressive.

God fucking damn, I thought people wanted some variety in their browser selection but the douchebag that wrote this article is lambasting them so fucking hard, very respectable and unbiased by the way.

It's like Sparkbrowser, but with even more ridiculous claims.

Cheaters deserve no fair-play.
Cheaters deserve no fair-play.
but they're still faster without cheating (which makes me wonder why they would cheat (and if they even cheated at all????))
The latest version of Maxthon scores 422 points on html5test.com instead of 467.
That's still more than I got with Chrome.
Hah, I only heard of this browser a few weeks ago only for having such a high score on html5test.com. Even if they have cheated, a score of 422 is nothing to be ashamed of. Of course, I would never switch from chrome.

If you want the bleeding-edge features, you can try out Chrome Canary which similar to their nightly builds. It has the highest score among any web browser, and serves as a testing ground before they push out new features to regular Chrome.

I've used it and it seemed slower than both firefox and chrome.

That explains a lot...
How come it's been downloaded over 500 million times but I've never heard of it?
How come it's been downloaded over 500 million times but I've never heard of it?
Maybe after its downloaded it re-downloads versions of itself every second?
[editline]7th July 2012[/editline]
Sounds like something Maxthon would do.
maybe it's 200% faster because it supports 200% less features than chrome?
maybe it's 200% faster because it supports 200% less features than chrome?
Then it wouldn't have scored higher than chrome, moron.

Everybody seems to use Chrome, I use Firefox :v:
Used to use Maxthon a looong time ago, it was actually pretty fast.
But imo I find Chrome faster.
Maxthon was okay when i used to use it. so glad i switched to chrome.
Its the new SparkBrowser

I had to switch from Firefox because it crashed every few seconds. I'm pretty happy with Chrome, though it was hard to get used to.
Who the hell is Maxthon anyway?
I don't care how fast it runs

It looks like fucking Rockmelt and I'm not using it under any circumstance
I've used it and it seemed slower than both firefox and chrome.
b/c it's based on trident, which powers IE
The android version of maxthon is pretty good, though

I really can't recommend Canary for anyone who doesn't have an extremely urgent need for the new features. They've put through a ton of updates that completely break the browser.
I'm using Rockmelt, which is pretty much chrome, and apparently they have an issue with that. They say that I don't have support for MP3 in HTML5, among other things, which is bullshit.
This isn't unusual, the initial implementation of SMIL (Animation for SVG files) in WebKit consisted of just the interfaces (i.e. the API, with no backing code) required for passing Acid3. And when MS was releasing the IE9 previews it was found that their JS engine was so closely tied to the SunSpider benchmark, that changing a line of code that never run caused it to slow down by some large margin.
That's the problem with benchmarks or score sheets, people optimise to the benchmarks to get the best score for marketing, and score sheets only test if a feature exists, not if it's implemented well.
