• $1000 Build

I'm helping a friend build a computer and he wanted me to pick out parts for him. He gave me a price range of around $1000. He wants it to be able to play games decently, and to have a decent sound card. I don't really know much about sound cards, so I could use a little help there, along with a bit of help picking out a power supply. I would like everything to come from Newegg. Any suggestions to part changes would be greatly appreciated as well. This is what I currently have picked out for him: Links in descending order of appearance on picture: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136769 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125412 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128478 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986 Thanks.
Why the 470.
Why the 470.
At the risk of sounding stupid, what 470? If by chance you mean the 460, I chose that because it's not that expensive, I know it runs well (I have the same one) and he's not looking to just play games. Forgot to mention that he mixes a lot of music.
If you have $130 more to spend, why not get a 560 Ti since you can?
For that mobo price you could get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157264 EDIT: Also, you have no PSU picked, go for Corsair or seasonic, or if someone else has some other reputable brands check those out too.

Two things I never really learned. I layed off a better GPU because I still need a good sound card and a good power supply. Would this be a good one? Reviews seem okay and it's outputting a decent wattage. Has two 6pins and some sata cables, so the graphics card and hard drive should be fine. If your friend doesn't need cross fire (which a lot of people don't) there is no reason to spend that much on a motherboard, you can get a quality one for $90 instead http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157230 If you're getting a i5-2500k you better get a heatsink/cooler like the hyper 212+ which is $30 You don't need the top of the line PSU stick with something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151096... again if no crossfiring I would recommend getting 6870 instead of gtx 460 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102948 By the chance that your friend want's to crossfire... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021 get this PSU or a better one and go with the extreme3 or extreme4 motherboard AND motherboards come with on board sound which negate the use of sound cards, unless you're looking for top of the line cards which... I know nothing about

Thanks guys. I mean he wants a sound card and I feel like I should put one in, but I really don't know too much about that. Here's what I've updated to:
use this guide to pick sound card/etc http://www.overclock.net/t/1014902/ocns-most-recommended-audio-products

Going with this card then: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829132006 Hope I didn't mismatch some parts or anything.
might want to add this cooler for the CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065
What all is he going to be using the computer for exactly
Here's a final build http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=16307251
I'm not that into building computers.. but wouldn't it be wise to buy a Motherboard with support for Ivy Bridge, if you first gonna spend a lot of money on it?
No point in upgrading for at least a few years. Ivy bridge isn't gonna be a huge improvement over sandy bridge... also this motherboard is only $90
Here's a final build http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=16307251
There's not a hard drive in this build, and OP if your friend is only going to game, there is no point at all in getting any sound card. All he would really need one for is if he was into music a lot and edits shit.
Then replace the 6950 with the 6870 and get the hard drive... There is a point in getting a sound card.
