I assume that, given the rate of unsubs, it'll still take quite some years for it to be either free to play or at the least lowered cost. It's not dead and not dying, but it is slowing down pretty quickly.
I really hope it never goes F2P. That'd be the absolute death of it. I'd still be subbed if I had the cash, but money's gotten tight lately.
I don't think they will ever go F2P, but I would be happy with the cost of subscription to go down.
£9 a month seems a little steep at this point, especially now that they are prone to selling mounts/pets for real money.
It was great up to and through Wotlk, but turned into something else with Cataclysm and later Pandaria.

It was with Cataclysm we first saw this decline, it is also with Cataclysm and Pandaria the game strayed away from its original concept.
Mists of Pandaria has actually been a pretty good expansion

WotLK was my favorite just because the atmosphere and music seemed so much better than before, but I really loved how Cata had quests that were actually, legitimately fun.
I loved the rejigged azertoth cata brought, I just wish you didnt zoom through it so quick
One of the reasons I quit was because of the new talent system. I just absolutely hate it.
I'd try it but monthly sub + need to buy all the expansions
yeah no

If I remember correctly if you make a starter account you get all the expansions except for Pandaria, and you can level to 20 too, so you can totally try it out.
The lvl 20 cap sounds low, but when I first played the game I only used a starter account, and only a hour of gameplay was enough to convince me it was worth the price for me.

I love the new system. You feel it less while leveling but choosing between two radically different movement skills is way more interesting than choosing between 1% crit or 2% haste.

I get where you're coming from, but only 5 choices is just way too few.
I miss the old talent tree, but I do like the new one. I really wish they'd have kept all the old shit for each version, and started either putting up servers for vanilla, BC, Wrath, etc., or released the assets so people could do it themselves. I really miss the Wrath Gate quest line
It's still an impressive feat that such an "old" MMO is still alive and so heavily populated, despite the decline of players.
People are leaving because there is nothing to keep them going. These little patches are basically band aids for the dated and borin content.

It's also just worth noting that the game is fucking old. Not much has changed really, it's the same formula, we've just seen people move to other genrre's at this point (League, for example) Though i will say Catacylsm obviously had a impact on it far beyond that.
The new talent system is the most casual friendly shit ever. There's literally no satisfaction of leveling up. The satisfaction of spending points to unlock a talent tree was so fun
Something feels off about this article. I might be wrong too.
Article keeps talking about how back in May 2013 subscriptions was at 8.3 million, but it doesn't mention about how it was dropped to 7.7 million on July 2013. They even have news article about it here http://www.pcgamesn.com/wow/world-warcraft-subscriptions-drop-again-77-million-worldwide.
What am I trying to say here, that drop in subscriptions has slowed down for now;
Drop between May 2013 and July 2013 was 600k subscriptions, but drop between July 2013 and November 2013 has only been 100k subscriptions.
I don't know if this really matters in the end, but I find it silly to not mention it on the article.
I stopped playing ages ago. I think a new expansion might peak my interest but I'm really not sure.. I went into Pandaria with no excitement (whereas normally I would be with a new expansion). I think the game has died for me now. This might sound sad but I'd LOVE to go back in time to BC / WoTLK days because the people I played with just made the game amazing.
Apparently they expected this decline though, just think of how long the game has ran before that big dip, 2004 to 2010, that's six years right there, and think of who a majority of the player-base were, teenagers, and by the end of those 6 years a lot of them were going to college, working jobs, etc. and just didn't have the time or money for wow.

It matters so people don't make crazy graphs.
I'd really like to play Warcraft again; but doing so would be at the expense of playing anything else. For a cheaper subscription price, I'd be open to subscribing and not feeling like I have to only play Warcraft.
