Game Informer has learned from sources close to the matter that Orth is no longer with Microsoft. A call to Microsoft's main switchboard confirmed this fact. Our sources, who wish to remain anonymous, suggest that Orth resigned in the wake of last week's events. We haven't been able to confirm whether this was a voluntary or forced resignation.
This kinda raised my hopes for the fate of the Xbox 2, but I doubt this will change much this late in development as far as always-on and 360-720 game overlap goes.

I'm hoping it'll convince Microsoft to reassess their new console in it's entirety and adapt it to fit what gamers really want in a console.
It's sad to see someone out of a job, but on the the other hand it's nice to know that someone who could have negatively affected the console and future Microsoft products is out the door.
"resigned"
Assuming his resignation was voluntary, he was probably in very hot water and would've been sacked if he hadn't quit.
Good, what a fucking dick.
Microsoft: Duh, who needs to be creative.
You can't make an announcement like that. What an arrogant moron.
I bet he lost Microsoft a ton in sales for the next X-Box.
What did he do exactly?
EDIT:
oh wait, it was that fucking dude. Fuck him.
The link doesn't work.

Fixed, they changed the URL to "resigns" instead of "fired".

You do realize FP, /v/, Reddit, Neogaf, and pretty much every gaming community combined do not make up the majority of gamers right?
RIP

I don't see what relevance that has, but I can't imagine the list of people that actually want an always-online console is very long.

there are people outside of FP?????

You realize it would be the third Xbox, not the second, right?
You realize it would be the third Xbox, not the second, right?
I think he is referring to the fact that Microsoft were planning to call it "XBox".

My point in the post was that we don't live in a world where everyone is connected yet. Unless Microsoft has somehow revolutionized gaming as we know it and somehow that requires us to have an internet connection, then I don't really see the reason they want to limit themselves to people who actually have one.
Oh snap, that must have hurt.

I still have no idea what the fuck Neogaf is.
The Wii was always online via Wii Connect 24, but you could turn it off in the menu and it was not required to play games

It's a forum like Facepunch.
Unlike Facepunch, it has only two real subforums: "Talkin' 'bout games" and "Not talkin' 'bout games" (paraphrasing). Also, registration to get into the site takes... quite some time as every registration is admin approved.
It has a pretty big userbase -- at this moment there are 7.7k people browsing it; of those, 4k are users.
Edit: Also, you forgot GFF (GameForce Forums; though it's not as popular as it used to be) and GameFAQs.
I guess his job had always-online DRM and his power went out.
i guess he can just #dealwithit
Get wrecked, nerd.

Even if it was DRM free he'd be ducked with a power outage.
