So. He's going to release alpha, patch it a few more times and then not give a shit about it anymore?
I guess that's great.
Sort've. Like many people, I bought ARMA 2 to play DayZ and now we're all probably going to have to buy another game. The DayZ mod will get less updates and the standalone project is going for the same development model as Minecraft which means we're going to have to pay for an unfinished game.
I dropped $30 for this, so I'm hoping for a discount on DayZ Alpha.
That picture in the OP is way off, there's no artifacts anywhere
What do they mean by Minecraft model? Will the gameplay be similiar to Minecraft's or?
I wanted to try Day Z but I didn't want to pay for ARMA or have anyone else do it, I guess this is kinda nice.
People who bought ARMA 2:CO and have downloaded and played DayZ better get a big fucking discount.
What do they mean by Minecraft model? Will the gameplay be similiar to Minecraft's or?
They're going to lay down the bare essentials then release the game and have weekly updates for the less important stuff. I'd rather they just released a finished game.

As in allowing people to play the game whilst it's still under development, much like Mojang did with Minecraft.

so you'd rather he continue to update on an engine that doesn't work at all for the target game? I think by "minecraft model" he means it'll be cheap on release, I'm guessing around $10-15 and then get progressively more expensive.
I foresee many vacations in the future.

"Minecraft development model", not "Minecraft pricing model"
I kinda hope it won't be too expensive.
Hall, who already works at Bohemia on the Arma series, explained that it'll be introduced as an alpha version at "a heavily discounted price," updated in "fast iterations."
It's the way it's going to be priced.
Site seems already overloaded, whoah.

Oh, I see. Thanks.
I'm also wondering how are they going to manage to create the game. Will it be a mix of the mod and Arma 2, and the game will be standalone just like that? I don't think Boheima would let them modify their own game and let them sell it like that. Copyright stuff and all.

Er, rocket works at BI, and they're completely behind the idea.

So it'll be like a standalone expansion for Arma 2, except it won't be related to Arma 2 nor it will be an expansion.
I can't wait to see the script and features.
Exactly. Its going to be its own title and everything will be tailored to what DayZ needs.
I'm wondering if it'll use ARMA 2 or ARMA 3 engine, or if they'll make a separate branch of ARMA 2 engine specifically tailored for Day Z.

Why the fuck would you get a discount? you bought ArmA2 CO, DayZ is a free mod. You got ArmA2, not DayZ.
Already being done by WarZ. The game has been in dev for 2 years now
What's basically going to happen is they're going to take the engine, rip out all the parts DayZ doesn't use, and implement the mod on a source code level, then work from there.
Should turn out pretty well, there are a lot of good things on the Arma 2 engine, but it's bloated with stuff DayZ doesn't use and needs to be optimized, badly.

That's stupid. So I should have a discount on Killing Floor because I have UT2004 and the mod. You can do this for all the mods that became commercial.
I think this is great, the Minecraft model also, and I don't think Rocket will let the game die.
And I'm ok to paid the game in his standalone version. I didn't buy DayZ, I bought ARMA II, even if it was for the mod DayZ.

I've still yet to see gameplay of that, by the way.
Just a bunch of pretty pictures and a wishful FAQ with no facts to back it up

Why would he not just wait for the Arma 3 engine to be ready...?
Can't wait to see what they're doing with it. The Arma 3 engine can make it look a lot better, and the fact that it's standalone means they can cut out the stuff from the base game that caused bugs or other annoyances.

Just because he is going standalone doesent mean he has the manpower to redo ArmA.

Yeah because there wasn't a massive increase in sales with DayZ and most people didn't buy Arma 2 CO just for DayZ
It'd be an asshole thing to do not to acknowledge that

If you bought ArmA 2 just for DayZ, well whatever. It would be a nice thing to give them a discount, but demanding it?
