My windows got corrupted, and I have to format my drive. I decided I wanted to try to salvage some files first, so I tried to boot Linux off my usb. I've never tried that before, and I didn't get it to work. I gave up, and I put in my Windows 7 disc, booted off it fine, got to the install menu and changed my mind. Tried to boot off a linux cd. I got the error "No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!" when trying to boot both the Linux USB and the Disc. Eventually I gave up on salvaging the files, and went back to the Windows disc. Now here's where my problem lies: Even though it worked perfectly fine the first time I booted it, now when I try to boot off the windows cd I get the same error "No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!".
Order I did the things in:
Linux USB (No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!)
Windows 7 Disc (Worked fine)
Linux Disc (No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!)
Windows 7 Disc (No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!)
I have no idea why it worked the first time, or why it doesn't work now. Every page I found on google involving the error message is somebody trying to boot linux off of a USB drive.
Edit: I just tried to boot from the Harddrive again, just to see what would happen. It won't even do that anymore. It just says "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISC AND PRESS ENTER"
Edit2: I'm so confused. I can now only boot from USB to linux. I got the Windows disc to boot again, and thinking I fixed the problem, decided against the format again (Am I retarded?) and tried to access the files from linux via USB. (Which I failed to do, again) Booting to HDD still fails, booting to CD/DVD Drive fails, booting to USB-HDD works for who the fuck knows what reason. All of these things give the "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISC AND PRESS ENTER" error now, instead of the old one.
