On my last nerve here!
This Linksys WRT54GS has served my family well for the past few years. But now it just won't work right.
About a month ago, a Windows Update (not on the host machine's end) resulted in all clients having the incorrect information. The Router reset itself, the SSID was changed, security settings were completely wiped, and for a time it didn't want to change them. I tried everything, but I had to resort to using WEP encryption and updating everything in the house to the spontaneously changed settings.
The same thing has happened again, with the exact same cause, and Windows Update error code 80070103 (already found out that error code). Is there a way to fix this whole mess?
A Windows update can't change your router settings. Have you tried resetting the router to factory default then configuring it?
If the SSID changed to anything other than "Linksys" than your router was broken into. (Or a family member is messing with you.) As M2k3 said, a Windows update can NOT touch your router as it only ever sees it as data packets flowing over the network. My guess is that your power hiccuped and sent a small surge that hit your router and reset it.
