• Looking for a bit of criticism

Started into this whole photography lark a while back with a mate of mine and was looking for a bit of criticism on my photos. What do you like about them, what d'you dislike about them, what can I do to improve, etc. http://www.flickr.com/photos/calpol/ Still using a Samsung point and shoot, but saving up the pennies for bigger things :) No editing done on the pictures either.
a few preliminary things, I might give you some in-depth feedback in a few hours: • post the 5-10 that you think are best in the OP, if you dan't be bothered to find the best of your photos, then why should we? • 'Not Editing' is something that you should either brag about or be proud of, in the same regard that 'heavily editing' doesn't improve or degrade your image. At the end of the day what you are showing us is regarded as your finished product, so we should treat it as such. If it isn't the finished product then you should question why you're showing it to us now.

ooh, I see you're the guy MisterM urbex'd with. Loving your b/w shots, but your color shots seem to be a bit desaturated, and that flattens them out and sucks the character of the scene dry. for instance, yours vs M's shot of this- you M with a few touches in post processing (depending on what program you use), you can most definitely bring out similar depth and that vibrant, wet grungy feel that M really captured. Keep at it, I like your eye for centered shots, I'm impressed in what you've done with just a point and click.
I think your pictures are great. Composition is spot on, and your subjects are very compelling to look at. I agree with dai, your images do need a little post processing. Fix colour balance and temperature issues, etc.
Pretty cool pictures
Thanks a lot :) Most of the factory ones are in black and white because of the reason you stated Daijitsu, they were just kinda disappointing to look at, especially compared with MisterM's shiny new Nikon pics :L It seems ok at night, but during the day it just really ruins photos, not sure why. Any recommendations for editing software? Don't have anything at all atm
Lightroom is superb.
Bibble5 is good if you're on a tight budget, or need it on linux. It's organizational features aren't quite as good, but it will do the job. Everything on my Flickr was edited in Bibble5.
forgot to get around to this- a quick editing in lightroom of your picture makes it stand out and look a lot more like M's shots
didn't you just do it a few posts up?
didn't you just do it a few posts up?
Exactly what I mean, it's almost indiscernable from M's shot at first glance with just some minor tweaks
Calpol's image (original plus my edit) M's picture
that's how it's done obviously there'd be setbacks in using a much lesser camera, such as needing to do more editing, having lots more grain/noise/distortion, but part of a good photo is applied technique.

I can ad nothing more except that I agree.
