The patents are stupid, but the real problem is the patent system that allows patents like these to exist. Apple isn't the only company with stupid patents, they have them since they get sued over other stupid patents from other companies (Which have them for the same reason, or because they're patent trolls)

Sorta, they have to re do those features so that they are not like what apple has patented. Albeit that those are bullshit things to have patents on, why can't other phones have a simple slide to unlock feature, or text prediction.
