It’s rare that Washington and Tehran are on the same wavelength. But the US and Iran are in agreement when it comes to Iraq: on Sunday, the two countries both said they would support Iraqi authorities faced with an insurrection led in large part by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), a group of al Qaeda-affiliated jihadists.
The Enemy of my Enemy is My Friend
But Ahmadinejad isn't in the president of Iran any more...
Who cares? dude's got the charisma needed for such a crackfic.
It's doubtful that this can be considered progress between them though. Once the insurgents have been beaten back, assuming they will be, the US will be right back at demanding that Iran stop their nuclear program, while Iran will continue anyway.
The Enemy of my Enemy is My Friend
The enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy. No more, no less. A little trust goes a long way. The less you use, the further you'll go.
The enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy. No more, no less.
Actually the saying was true for WW2. The Western Allies supported the brutal Soviet Union in their war against Germany, even giving them thousands of tanks and armoured trucks, tens of thousands of light trucks, untold numbers of other materiel like food and ammo. Then they won, and the Cold War began. Also, they never did repay us for what we gave them.

The Soviets were pissed as hell and were out for German blood after what Germany tried to do to them. I don't think sudden world peace would have convinced them to call it off.
This is not the first time the US and Iran have found a common enemy. if you look up the 2001 uprising in Herat Afghanistan, it says that US and Iranian special forces fought together to capture the city. Al Qaeda are a Sunni terrorist group and Iran is Shiite. So this makes sense actually.
