Reenactment thread. Questions, comments, complaints, all welcome. All eras/timelines/groups are welcome. I personally reenact as a 1st Century AD Roman legionary from the Eleventh Claudian, but at times we reenact alongside our sister group, Legio VI Ferrata Fidelis Constans under Rusty Meyers/Justus Longinus. XI is from Atlanta, and VI is from Charleston. I'm the short guy, hence my name, Titus Valerius Minimus. How much does all that get-up shindig stuff cost you? In current currency.
I've always had a great interest in joining the Sealed Knot English Civil War reenactors, sadly I'm in America. The only groups around me are US Civil War reenactors I think. :c
Where do you live? Perhaps I could look up a group for you. [editline]8th December 2014[/editline]
How much does all that get-up shindig stuff cost you? In current currency.
Around 400+ for a standard legionary kit(Lorica Segmentata, Gallic-X Galea, Balteus, Tunic, Gladii, Caligae, helmet liner), then you'll need a scutum and pilum. Marching demands a furca and other misc equipment. It can vary, really.
Where do you live? Perhaps I could look up a group for you.
Unfortunately I think it's kind of niche even in England so to find something here in Northwest Florida would be really odd. I think we might have some Seminole Wars reenactors though which seems cool, even those are like 100 miles out I think.
XII Fulminata and Cohors I Praetoria are in Orlando Florida, and probably have members all around the state. Seems XII Fulminata are also in Alabama if you're near there. If Roman reenacting interests you, here's the list of US groups: http://www.romanempire.net/romepage/Links/roman_reenactment_groups.htm As for English groups with medieval/middle age themes, there's SCA. Legio VI Ferrata Fidelis Constans is from South Carolina(closer to Florida than I am), and has a great schedule/group of guys, and are really active.
Been looking for WWI groups in New England to join. My friend from Missouri does WWII.

We used to be able to actually show people load the cannons and do wood work but can't do that anymore because some 10 year old could get a splinter by trying it for themselves with supervision from both parents and the person trained for the wood carving. Hit the stage I stopped going to the events because it was no longer fun and most people just use it as an excuse to get shitfaced now which really doesn't appeal to me.
Working on joining up with the SS Wiking regiment for the upcoming WW2 reenactment next year. Current things that I need to get in order are getting into shape and knowing where to buy gear. I talked to one of the dudes there, and he said it's actually really easy for someone to join up and participate, it's just the gear stuff that I need to worry about. A good kit can run upwards of $1200
I wish I had the time and money to do something like this, it looks like so much fun. Like LARPing but without any negative stigma.
Sadly, most public stuff like this carries a negative stigma.
I dunno, I've never really heard people make fun of reenactors. Mainly due to the historical aspect of it, and since a lot of reenactment events around here are at museums and stuff. Speaking of which, I love going up to Old Strubridge Village every year for their "Redcoats and Rebels" event.
Can someone post that video of the Russian reenactment with a bulldozer and a Molotov cocktail from a few years ago?
I just wish Americans were more avid about ancient history and reenactment as Europeans are. The big thing over here is the civil war, where there can be thousands of Yankees and Rebels levied for each side, meanwhile the Roman Empire in America likely doesn't even have a cohort. Though, let's look at Europe. They probably have an entire Legion of reenactors in total. XXI Rapax, and II Augusta/Ermine Street Guard are the big ones.

I guess I should add some background as a HEMA practitioner, now I respect all sorts of reenactment, LARP or whatever but I hear a lot of shit where reenactors go "LARPers just play in the woods" and I see HEMA people go "reenactors arent doing battle according to historical combat treatises" and then there's the fucking sport convent in hema who is like "HEMA is not for nerds get everything historical out of here!" [editline]9th December 2014[/editline] I guess it's more prominent in Sweden.

Remove the S in https. also i think I finally found a WWI group that speaks to me. yay.
Yay for you, sir.
I do WW2 Japanese, WW2 Soviet, Soviet Afghanistan (Both Soviet/Mujihadeen) [t]http://i60.tinypic.com/wqwytc.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/CEdTNMa.jpg[/t] [t]https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/10404252_10205023650782172_7600802921718990347_n.jpg?oh=86f80aa69c8d4bb2b7ecddf3ddc9cb03&oe=551F3A4C[/t] [t]http://i57.tinypic.com/oibv4j.jpg[/t] problem is, the latter 3 don't get a whole lot of attention so it sucks, but on the plus side I went with a group that weeds out the farb in our impression so it keeps us at tip top shape [editline]9th December 2014[/editline] I do modern impressions too but not really sure if that falls under reenacting or history

I do American Civil War (19th Virginia), American Revolution (42nd Highland), and Napoleonic Wars (92nd Gordon Highlanders). I'd love to try WWII but I'm not willing to shave. I've got a full Soviet uniform plus a nuggie so I'm looking for some Soviet groups. I also Go around Renaissance faires with my mates, where we play a corps of Highland mercenaries. BTW, any of the Roman reenactments have Gauls or Britons? I'd love to paint myself with woad and yell at the top of my lungs.

Well, they support the reenactment, at least. My legion has Gallic and Celtic kits to use during reenactment, but unless it's our Lafe Event, no one knows who the Gauls are. Treated the leather, and treated my caligae. New pictures soon.

Believe me, it is. Haven't tried Auxilia yet but polearm infantry is fun, says our Greek friends at least.
I reenact WWII stuff with my dad all the time. He puts all the pictures on his facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008148938158&ref=br_tf&sk=photos All of the gear you'll see is owned by him. You might also see me in some of them, I'm the kid with the glasses. It's pretty fun, and it's always nice to meet veterans. There was one guy who told us a story of how he blew up a german clocktower. [editline]december who cares[/editline] He also does an act where he "lands" as if it was d-day, takes off the parachute, puts together the gun, all that.
id love reenacting a SS army one just because the way they functioned . that or soviet also the taliban a d-day reenactment would be sick tho
Too bad no one around here gives a shit about history, so the closest place where they do this kinda thing is about 3-4 hours away
Hope you guys don't mind if I occasionally post from my HEMA club. Here's from Stockholms medieval market weekend.
I tag along to my university's medieval reenactment club, which is pretty damn fun. I never thought fighting with spears would be so fun :v: I need to build one of my own for when I get back next year. I'm only disappointed that the period we run is juuuust before the period where I'd be able to use a claymore. I suck too much at getting too close but prefer footwork and range, so it's a bit of a shame I can't ever use those weapons in this club. fuu.
