Many see it as a reminder of the many pre-Civil War injustices while others see it simply as a way to honor the soldiers who died for the Confederacy. Many large US companies, like Walmart and Amazon, have already banned the sale of any Confederate flag merchandise as a reaction to the recent events. Now, it appears that Apple has decided to join them by pulling many Civil War wargames from the App Store. As of the writing of this story, games like Ultimate General: Gettysburg and all the Hunted Cow Civil War games are nowhere to be found. Apple is famous for reaching for the axe rather than the scalpel when it comes to political issues (like rejecting Hunted Cow's Tank Battle 1942 for depicting Germans and Russians as enemies), so this move doesn't come as a great surprise. Update: It's looking like Apple has pulled everything from the App Store that features a Confederate flag, regardless of context. The reasoning Apple is sending developers is "...because it includes images of the confederate flag used in offensive and mean-spirited ways." We just spoke with Andrew from HexWar Games, who have released many historical strategy games. He insists, "We're in no way sympathetic to the use of the flag in an offensive way, we used it purely because historically that was the flag that was used at the time."
http://toucharcade.com/2015/06/25/apple-removes-confederate-flag/ That's a bit overzealous to say the fucking least.
I think we've reached the point of 'kneejerk reaction' now.
So now we're going to pretend our past didn't happen now or what? Like wow, what a crime for using historically accurate flags in a game about the fucking time period.
Lol. Talk about an overreaction. They really want to see that flag gone (not like I would miss it but yeah)
Hate to be "one of those guys" but after typing Nazi on my iPhone on the app store, I spotted the swastika, flying eagle, adolf hitlers face and the Iron Cross on icons Like c'mon if your gonna do this, all fine and good but how about take down these apps as well?
This is very disingenuous. If you want to support the removal of the confederate flag as a sign of racial hatred, then by all means. Do just that. But to throw a blanket over EVERYTHING with the flag's depiction is ridiculous and solves absolutely nothing. It's a move to protect themselves without actually putting any thought into the context and symbolism.
So now we're going to pretend our past didn't happen now or what? Like wow, what a crime for using historically accurate flags in a game about the fucking time period.
We have to deal with this for years in Germany now. Modified appearances of Hitler in Videogames where he looks completely different, removal of Swastika Flags, removal of any mentioning of the Third Reich... etc.
At least the Petagon put their foot down and said they won't change the names of the army bases named after Confederate figures.

Amazon's also halted the sale of all board games containing the confederate flag, so that's a thing. We're really doing this, aren't we? We're knee-jerking our way into post-WW2 Germany in the span of a week. That's kind of amazing.
"Today is a boring day" he uttered. "I have nothing to complain about!" He lazily looked at his bookstand, and the confederate flag on his American War history book. Without much hesitation, he thought to himself "let's get tweeting"
i wonder what matrix games will think of this, since they publish a lot of civil war era strategy games
so progressive
I don't like that my country is starting to handle the confederate flag the same way that Germany handles nazi flags and swastikas. I always thought it was stupid to straight up ban negative history because I feel like it's the equivalent of the nation just "Sweeping it under the rug" rather than acknowledging and understanding the mistakes of the past. America is becoming way too soft for its own good.
Those racists should try to apply some reverse psychology and start a shooting while waving an Israeli flag
What's up with everyone banning confederate flag all of a sudden? First ebay, now apple?

probably what happened is apple pulled everything just to avoid backlash from people seeing wal-mart and amazon pulling things they'll start looking at context of things and allowing things that should be back on

Don't take down either.
I hate it when shit like this happens, overall. I mean the overzealous censorship or destruction or action against something in response to a tragedy. Especially when I initially AGREE with a mild measurement of action to be taken, but can't even sustain that view, because people -- like this -- take it too far. Like, the day after the shooting, I did want South Carolina to reconsider their use and parading of the flag. That's a view I held genuinely. But now that shit like this is happening, it puts me, and so many other people, in a compromising position of personal opinion where there are no right answers, but a staggering many wrong ones -- none of which will result in a remotely good end. Just another consequence of the tragedy, I suppose.
I guess the US has its own Swastika/Nazi flag now.
I don't know, it's brought good things in too.
What is that from?
What is that from?
Persona 2 re-release. They had to censor Hitler(hes the main baddy in it) so they put sunglasses on him.
Anything with a confederate flag on it is actually a horcrux for racism. Once they're all gone racism will be over. [sp]I am being sarcastic[/sp]

Banning a flag and and other symbols is censorship in my eyes and just because a few SJW get pissed off does not mean anything to me. I can understand removing the flag from gov't buildings because yes, that symbol is contradictory to our current values. This is just ridiculousness.
This probably won't last. Remember after Columbine they nixed things involving school shootings off TV and that? They came back eventually.
People are over sensitive babies
the Iron Cross on icons
The Iron Cross isn't that bad though. It is still used today in the German military, albeit in a slightly different style. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Cross
To be fair, nobody really asked for this. Or the eBay one. They're just kind of doing it on their own, probably thinking they are covering their asses.
that's why they want to be protected from the oversensitive man-babies

For a company like Apple to pull something like this, there's gotta be a decent amount of general community uproar. Apple is just addressing it in the most extreme manner likely done to prevent them from having to deal with a PR nightmare. Can't blame everything on "those darn SJW"s.
