As a 40th anniversary this year, I would like to post this. In case if you wanna know the plot: five kids and parents take a tour to the chocolate factory like they never seen before. Fact:
It received positive reviews, but it was a box office failure. However, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory developed into a cult film due to its repeated television airings and home video sales.
Part 1 Part 2 Not available :saddowns: Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Not available :saddowns: Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Who could have not like this movie? I always watch this every year when I was kid.
Watched the shit out of this as a kid. Love Gene Wilder.
This is my favorite children's film. I felt like crying after seeing Tim Burton ruin it.
One of my favourite films of all time. It's just the ultimate feel good film for me, but I also love how sinister Willy Wonka can be.
This is my favorite children's film. I felt like crying after seeing Tim Burton ruin it.
I pretty much knew it would be terrible but I didn't know he would massacre it that bad. Can't be forgiven.
Gene Wilder. 'Nuff said.
I was kind of expecting someone to post this.
^ Holy shit Christopher Lloyd. Also Wonka's assistant that you think is evil the whole time (the one trying to get kids to smuggle stuff out of the factory) is as evil as you think. He played a Nazi in the Bridge at Remagen. Oh shit looking up all the films he's been in he played Hitler a few times.
Fantastic movie.
Tim Burton: I love you man, but you made willy wonka a really damn creepy movie.
Tim Burton: I love you man, but you made willy wonka a really damn creepy movie.
This version had far creepier moments to be honest. I don't like how people seem to think dark=good these days, the new version lacked so much.
The only thing I liked about the new one was how his condo was literally gone when he went back to it. I chuckled Other than that it sucked
Remains one of my favourite movies ever. It's amazing on blu-ray.
No one will ever be able to replace Gene Wilder in this film. Probably his best role.
No one will ever be able to replace Gene Wilder in this film. Probably his best role.
Besides Young Frankenstein, The Producers, Blazing Saddles, and this movie, I can't really think of any good roles he's had.
I was kind of expecting someone to post this.
Well, I was kinda expecting someone to post THIS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jxyny7ZzrHM
Besides Young Frankenstein, The Producers, Blazing Saddles, and this movie, I can't really think of any good roles he's had.
I should have put this in my first post, but Silver Streak and Sherlock Holmes' smarter brother.
In other words, Gene Wilder is a badass. Shame he isn't as widely known as he should be, most people I talk to don't know him outside of this.
I love this film. The interior of the factory, the set when they first get into the main part of the factory (the room with all the candy vegetation and the chocolate river) is great. The fact that people had to actually build that makes it even better. Gene Wilder is awesome, too. I don't think the remake is as bad as some people make out. Visually, it's a very nice film to look at - I didn't really 'get' Johnny Depp as Wonka, though, and I hate how Charlie was completely selfless. The backstories about Charlie's dad getting laid off at the factory, and Wonka's dad were alright. The original is by far the best, though.

I could have lived with the new version, since it did have some genuinely good moments, even though the songs were terrible. But... this version had more interesting children, scenes, and had Gene fucking Wilder.
The scene on the boat terrified me as a child

The part at the end where you find out ol' Slugworth is a good guy is just heartwarming. :keke:
Gene Wilder's only condition for playing Willy Wonka: "When I make my first entrance, I'd like to come out of the door carrying a cane and then walk toward the crowd with a limp. After the crowd sees Willy Wonka is a cripple, they all whisper to themselves and then become deathly quiet. As I walk toward them, my cane sinks into one of the cobblestones I'm walking on and stands straight up, by itself... but I keep on walking, until I realize that I no longer have my cane. I start to fall forward, and just before I hit the ground, I do a beautiful forward somersault and bounce back up, to great applause." Crazyawesome motherfucker.
Gene Wilder's great. It's a shame I havn't seen more of his stuff :saddowns:
The scene on the boat terrified me as a child
Who wasn't terrified by that?
