An earthquake of 8.2 magnitude has struck off northern Chile, triggering a tsunami warning for all of Latin America's Pacific coastline, the US Geological Survey says.
It said the quake was very shallow, only 10km below the seabed, striking 86km (56 miles) north-west of the mining area of Iquique.
There are reports of 2m (6ft) waves heading for the Chilean coastline.
Chilean authorities have ordered the speedy evacuation of coastal areas.
There are some reports of landslides hitting highways.
I wonder if this has to do anything with the few earthquakes I've felt up here in So-cal.

All earthquakes have something to do with each other in some way, so yes, I guess so, but besides that...nah, this is normal.
I'm doing a project about the subduction zone in this region right now this feels so weird

If the water is receded you should get the hell out of there.
I hope everyone finds safety in time. Good luck to any facepunchers in the area

A Tsunami Watch was also in place last time there was a major Earthquake in Chile, but nothing happened around these parts. Let's hope it's the same this time around.

Same thing here in Hawaii. I just got the Nixle emergency alert text. Nothing happened last time but my family still evacuated just in case.

On topic: Be positive, the people of the north must be moving out of the coast right now, they have been suffering a lot of mini-earthquakes lately and the memories of the 27/F are still fresh even more, people from other regions are moving out of the coast too.
This is the fault of our current president. When she was in the charge the big earthquake happens, now she comes back again and they start once again. Can the earth be angry?
The earthquake's magnitude has been revised upward to 8.2

Jesus that siren is creepy.
You know, seeing my fellow chileands on the coast on such danger make me feel weird, i guess they felt the same when we were hit by that 8,9 earthquake about 4 years ago.
Let's hope they manage well the tsunami alert and they evacuate correctly.

I did not know what the "Turing Test" was about nor it existence, I could use it later on a University work and maybe earn some good score.
Thanks Machine Man!
Oh god they are escaping on they cars and there's a massive traffic jam all over the coast.

Holy shit if i ever heard a siren like that i would pretty much think a nuclear strike was going on.
I have family there. Fuck, I hope they are alright.
I slept through the 8.9 27/2/10 earthquake and realized in the morning when there was no electricity.
I'm glad I've only felt a couple small tremors during my stay here in Santiago.
This is what it looked like in Indonesia
