I don't come here often, because there's very little of my music collection that I think is a well-enough kept secret to justify sharing it. But I've been listening to this group for a while, since they're not only local to me, but opened at a show that I went to. I have a little trouble accurately describing them, and so does Wikipedia, but they give a succinct enough description.
Air Dubai is a seven-piece hip hop band from Denver, Colorado. The band is composed of vocalists Julian Thomas and Jon Shockness, with Lawrence Grivich (guitar), Michael Ray (keyboards/synth), Taylor Tait (bass), Wesley Watkins (trumpet) and Nick Spreigl (drums). The band is known for their highly energetic live performances and their sound has been characterized as a mixture of R&B, jazz, and alternative rock
They offer a pretty varied experience, all with some soulful roots. Most of their most recent album, Wonder Age, is just something great to spend a summer day listening to. It covers a lot of different subjects, from love songs to how much the weather in Colorado sucks (:v:). Julian, the rapper, has some of the most even flow I've ever heard, and he manages to adapt to the tempo of the song flawlessly. On the other hand, what is most likely to draw most people in is Jon, who has, if not one of the best, then one of the single most appealing singing voices out there today. Further, the instrumentals are perfectly tuned to the music, and help further the tones, while making it more appealing for someone who doesn't just like hip-hop.
The entirety of Wonder Age can be found for listen here. Unfortunately, it's not free to download, but give it a listen, and you might find that 10 dollars isn't so steep.
I'd give you more information, but, frankly, they're so unknown that there really isn't much. But I hope you'll take some time to listen to them, and hopefully enjoy it. If you do, go ahead and spread the word. I think these guys deserve some recognition.
