I'm trying to hook my MacBook Pro up to the school internet via ethernet cable, but it's not working. I'm using both a cable and a switch that are known to be working. When I go home, the wireless works fine, however. I'm running Windows XP. It says the internet is working and connected and I have an IP address, but every time I try to load anything(firefox, steam) it just says no connection. This is a recent problem that has only popped up in the last couple days, but I have not tried wired internet in my house.
Try to go to 127.0.0.1 or 192.0.0.1 in your web browser, maybe there is something there.
connection timeout. [editline]30th November 2010[/editline] also tried pinging steampowered.com and google.com in command prompt. Couldn't find them.
Try connecting to your own IP in your webbrowser then.
Got the control panel for the school's firewall. 192.168.1.1. Probably an invalid IP, isn't it?
