When I rebuilt my PC, I never noticed till a few weeks ago. I can hear absolutely no voices in any game. Not like NPC or Game voices, I mean a real person talking on a microphone. Steam's voice thing doesn't work, when someone calls me on it I don't hear a little ring or anything. When someone messages me on it though, I hear the little beep for that. Voices don't work on BC2 as well, or ventrilo. I was talking to a few friends on steam and they said it might be because I don't have a sound card. It could be that, but I didn't have that before and I still heard voices. I have a different motherboard now, I can't remember what it is at the moment though. All I can remember is that my old motherboard was an Asus P5K. Any clue what could be going on here? If a sound card will fix my problem, would you guys recommend some to me? Preferably under $40.
Odd, could always try updating your MoBo's sound drivers. Check in control panel to see if your volume control is wonkey for anything. Some drivers as far as I know handle stuff like voices as different audio streams all together and might have a sperate volume control for voice.
Make sure the same device is selected as default for communications audio and audio
I figured it out, I fiddled with some settings. It was set at 5.1 surround sound but I don't have that so I set it up to stereo and that fixed it.
i had that problem once. somehow windows set the sound setting to karaoke and the pc removed all voices
