• Replacing low-profile video card

Ok guys I've had this PC for almost a year now and since I have an IOU from my parents to the value of $400 NZD ($282 USD) I'm looking for a video card under $100 (I'll be referring to NZD from now on). Originally the money is to go to a new graphics tablet but I've found one for $300 and now it's time to upgrade the PC a little with the left overs. My current build: Stock Optiplex 755 E6550 @ 2.33GHz 4gb ddr2 Radeon 256mb HD 2400 PRO 80gb & 40gb 7200 SATA HDDs Things I'd prefer:

I can purchase the video card within NZ (can't do overseas purchases)
$100 max budget
Performs better than the 2400
Now I haven't just come here asking you guys for help without me doing a proper investigation so here's what I've found out:

The 2400 draws 21w max, so the new one will have to be around the same
Something I found that fits what I'm looking for, but I don't know how well it would fair with the PSU. Further info can be found here
The PC is the DT model, which explains the low profile limitation.
Currently hooked up to a 24" 1080 and a 17" 768 through the DVI port split into 2 VGAs.
Thanks guys for helping me out.
How many watts is your PSU? If you have enough power, (which I don't think you do) you should go for a 4770.

Looks like 280w :( Edit: Holy shit a 4770 is way outta my PC's league Edit: More research yielded the power consumption of the 4350 I'm looking at: 20w, but that's the stock version so I'm guessing this one will be at least 50% more.
Just get a new PSU
What will you be using this PC for?
4650
OP have you got an actual hardware site we can use
Just get a new PSU
I would, but first I'm going to need more money for that (which I've explained I have a budget of $100 NZD) and I wouldn't know where to start with a new PSU that can fit in the case.
What will you be using this PC for?
Mid-range gaming and graphic design
4650
4550 is the best option I can find, unless you can find me one that fits the criteria provided.
OP have you got an actual hardware site we can use
Here's links I've already posted: http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/optix/en/opti_755_techspecs.pdf - The stock build (DT version) http://www1.sapphiretech.com/nz/products/products_overview.php?gpid=260&grp=3 - What is on my mind right now http://www.trademe.co.nz/Computers/Components/Video-cards/Other/auction-262038031.htm - The auction page What do you mean by hardware site anyway?
a site you can buy hardware from, not a general auction/selling site
What do you mean by hardware site anyway?
Like Newegg.com, or Tigerdirect.com, or Overclockers.co.uk, or ebuyer.co.uk. Sites like those.
Not Newegg in this case though.
OP, if you're going to be using this PC for mid-end gaming you're going to want a 4670 or higher. Which means you'll have to upgrade your PSU, which isn't all that bad being that you won't survive on a 230 watt for another year. You should look into buying a 550 watt or 500 watt before you upgrade your GPU, or upgrade both right now if you have the budget.
Not Newegg in this case though.
Whomever rated paul simon dumb clearly hasn't read what the criteria has stated:
I can purchase the video card within NZ (can't do overseas purchases)
Think of it as a challange.
OP, if you're going to be using this PC for mid-end gaming you're going to want a 4670 or higher. I don't have the budget to get a new PSU so a good video card that doesn't draw much power and can fit a low profile case. Again, budget is $100 NZD ($70 USD), cannot do overseas and must be low profilable with a low power consumption. Something to add is that I don't want the power bill to go up as well.
I suggest this PSU, http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=482282, and this GPU, http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=370584 Everything costs so much on that website. 4670s are nearly $120. They're around $70 here in America.
Everything costs so much on that website. 4670s are nearly $120. They're around $70 here in America.
Maybe because their prices are in NZ Dollars?
Ok guys ending up getting the 1gb one of these: http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?psn=000101&pid=274 It's going to cost me a bit more than I wanted to but that's fine, 128-bit beats 64-bit anyday. Plus it's gotten reviews on Newegg stating it works fine on 250w psus.
4650
A stand corrected here Thread adjourned.
