Since their startling aesthetic and tongue-in-cheek productions began captivating minds in 2009, the endeavor was only envisioned to be a five album project, and they’re staying true to their original intent. Ninja and Yolandi have just announced that in September 2017, Die Antwoord is over.
http://www.youredm.com/2016/09/09/breaking-die-antwoord-shares-plans-disband-next-year/
Who? [editline]10th September 2016[/editline] I've never heard any of those names.
Who? [editline]10th September 2016[/editline] I've never heard any of those names.
They were the people that were in Chappie. Thats the extent of their fame besides being some obscure hipstery music group.
Who? [editline]10th September 2016[/editline] I've never heard any of those names.
south african, claims they created their own genre of music, was asked by lady gaga to open for her and they told her to fuck off and then featured her character wearing a meat dress in africa getting a giant insect in her vagina and then getting eaten by a lion. thats about it
They were the people that were in Chappie. Thats the extent of their fame besides being some obscure hipstery music group.
is hipster just the word everyone uses to describe anything they don't like? I don't even like them but since when was that hipster hipster is such a widely used insult, it literally has no meaning.

Yeah, never heard them.
south african, claims they created their own genre of music, was asked by lady gaga to open for her and they told her to fuck off and then featured her character wearing a meat dress in africa getting a giant insect in her vagina and then getting eaten by a lion. thats about it
I don't even... They sound contrarian for the sake of being contrarian.
I've heard of them
Maybe 2016 wasn't such a bad year after all.
Aw come on, I've always liked their stlye
Watkin Tudor Jones and Anri Du Toit are two of the biggest names in music
that's pretty generous
I don't even... They sound contrarian for the sake of being contrarian.
That's pretty much Die Antwoord for you
is hipster just the word everyone uses to describe anything they don't like? I don't even like them but since when was that hipster hipster is such a widely used insult, it literally has no meaning.
I don't mean it as an insult, I mean that they're hopelessly obscure and insanely odd for the sake of being odd, which I guess is considered trendy. You know, hipster.
I don't mean it as an insult, I mean that they're hopelessly obscure and insanely odd for the sake of being odd, which I guess is considered trendy. You know, hipster.
I wouldn't call them "hopelessly obscure" if they've recently been in a big budget movie, had one of their songs on Far Cry 3's soundtrack, and their albums consistently do pretty well on the charts.
I would even call them hipster, they're most alternative or underground. They dope tho.
they were in the movie chappie. good movie, but acting no.
Thread title is a little bit incorrect though, they aren't breaking up as parting their ways (and since they're married that would mean a divorce), they're just going to start new project (new band?) or something later.
Cant hardly wait to see them in Detroit in October. Sounds like itll be my one only chance to see them as Die Antwoord
They ruined chappie for one thing.
They ruined chappie for one thing.
Chappie having no idea what kind of movie it wanted to be ruined chappie
claims they created their own genre of music
As far as I'm aware they've never claimed to invent the zef counter-culture. [editline]9th September 2016[/editline]
I don't mean it as an insult, I mean that they're hopelessly obscure and insanely odd for the sake of being odd, which I guess is considered trendy. You know, hipster.
When it comes to music genres, hipster usually refers a pretty specific style of indie/alternative rock.
Oookkkaaaayyyy....I would be sad if it was a group like Metallica or Disturbed, but that? Pfft.
Oookkkaaaayyyy....I would be sad if it was a group like Metallica or Disturbed, but that? Pfft.
No one would be sad over Disturbed breaking up.
Chappie having no idea what kind of movie it wanted to be ruined chappie
True, but those two certainly didn't help.
No one would be sad over Disturbed breaking up.
Disturbed did break up. And unfortunately came back.
They were the people that were in Chappie. Thats the extent of their fame besides being some obscure hipstery music group.
they were also one reason why the behind the scenes of chappie was so fucked up http://uproxx.com/filmdrunk/ninja-from-die-antwoord-was-allegedly-a-huge-pain-in-the-ass-during-chappie/
“He is pure evil,” said a female member of the crew. And she is not the only one to use the phrase. […] “That pile of sh*t” is how one cast member now refers to Ninja. “The other actors were gatvol. He told them how to do their scenes. He’d call and say they were doing it wrong and tell them how to do it,” said a source. Another said Ninja sent emails to this effect to other actors. Two actors particularly targeted by Ninja’s director complex allegedly included US actor Jose Pablo Cantillo and local star Brandon Auret. A source said: “Brandon is the greatest actor on set, calm and present. You must know that if it gets to a point where he wants to hit Ninja he’s so angry, there was a serious problem.” City Press was told that Ninja’s own performance grew increasingly violent and physical and departed from the script. Yet Ninja “wanted to phone Blomkamp every five minutes” to discuss his character. […] It is claimed by two sources that Ninja sent explicit photos – in the act of having fellatio performed on himself – to at least one female member of the set. Several sources say he hit on female cast and crew, even in front of his partner Yo-landi. He invited them to Cape Town “telling them they would get a hotel room and hire prostitutes to join them”, said a source. Another source said Ninja made a pest of himself with local model and actress Tanit Phoenix. […] “Die Antwoord are vegan and they refused to eat the vegetarian food on set. They made their driver go into town from Soweto every day to fetch special food.” Their image may be zef and trashy but the vegans only drink Veuve Clicquot champagne when they take alcohol.

Oookkkaaaayyyy....I would be sad if it was a group like Metallica or Disturbed, but that? Pfft.
Better to break up before you start making shit music.
they were also one reason why the behind the scenes of chappie was so fucked up http://uproxx.com/filmdrunk/ninja-from-die-antwoord-was-allegedly-a-huge-pain-in-the-ass-during-chappie/
Those were all rumors though.
I don't mean it as an insult, I mean that they're hopelessly obscure and insanely odd for the sake of being odd, which I guess is considered trendy.
No one would be sad over Disturbed breaking up.
I'd be interested to see where David Draiman would go after Disturbed breaks up. I dig that "scat through the entire song and fill in some lyrics later" thing he does.
