• Turkish man finally "alive" after 10 year long court battle to prove he was alive
A 46-year-old Turkish man mistakenly listed as dead by authorities has spent 10 years fighting to prove he is alive, state media reported on Sunday. Sinan Avci, who lives in eastern Erzurum province, was forced into an early retirement in 2003 after being diagnosed with epilepsy. The former worker discovered that Turkey's Social Security Fund (SSK) had listed him as dead in 2004 when he failed to withdraw his disability pension. "They told me I was deceased... But I was very much alive," he was quoted as saying by the state-run Anatolia news agency. After a 10-year legal battle, Avci finally managed this week to convince the authorities that he was not dead. But he faces another struggle trying to get his unpaid salaries and the right to disability benefits back. "What else should I do? I proved that I'm alive but should I now cut my arms or legs to prove I'm disabled?" he said, crying. I somehow managed to misread Turkish man as Tupac

"As you can see your honor, I have all my ID cards, can recite all my bank accounts, government details, recall who was in charge when I was young and am standing here breathing" "I'm sorry but that isn't enough for this court, case dismissed, go back to being dead"

GUARDS! WE HAVE A ZOMBIE! HEEELP"
Finally he can pay taxes seriously though, it's good that he can get his life back, getting the benefits and stuff.
That is some fucked up 1984 shit
That is some fucked up 1984 shit
Kafkaesque, rather.
I somehow managed to misread Turkish man as Tupac
Wrong country, he's in Serbia.
Well it makes SOME degree of sense, I can imagine that if the system thinks you're dead, proving that you're not an imposter claiming to be the guy for benefits, I.E his pension is a process that needs to be done.

Something similar, but on the opposite end of the spectrum, happened in our family; the government goofed and asked my grandpa to pay 15 years' worth of back taxes last year. Only thing is, he was long since dead and thus beyond such concerns. God damn though, I wouldn't even be able to imagine what this poor guy'd gone through. Hope he succeeds in getting his benefits at least.

I'm still skeptical don't believe dead man lies everyone
What would've happened if he broke the law while "dead"? You can't prosecute a dead man, right?
What would've happened if he broke the law while "dead"? You can't prosecute a dead man, right?
Good point, that would have forced the issue
Wait so they listed him as dead just because he didn't go get his pension once? Did someone fuck up or is this how it normally works?
What would've happened if he broke the law while "dead"? You can't prosecute a dead man, right?
they make him doubled deaded
Humans sure love making seemingly simple ideas really complicated.
What would've happened if he broke the law while "dead"? You can't prosecute a dead man, right?
This story sounds like a good writing prompt. [editline]6th July 2015[/editline] A dead man seeking to prove that he is alive, everyone can hear and see him, but no one believes him. Staring Nicholas Cage.
