Christoph Waltz will play the iconic James Bond villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the 24th 007 film, according to the Mail on Sunday.
The two-time Oscar-winner is expected to be named as Daniel Craig's latest opponent next month. Previous reports suggested Waltz would initially portray a conflicted role - neither "friend" nor "foe" - in the new Bond movie. However the Mail, which initially reported the Waltz casting scoop, now suggests the Austrian actor is set to play Blofeld for the first time on the big screen in more than three decades.
The Bond movies have been free to incorporate classic elements of the 007 mythos such as Blofeld and nefarious organisation SPECTRE once again after a long-running legal case with the estate of Blofeld co-creator Kevin McClory was settled in November last year. McClory's family sold its remaining stake in 007 to Danjaq, maker of the Bond films via its better known subsidiary Eon, and distributor MGM.
The move allowed for rights to characters introduced in 1965's Thunderball, a collaboration between Ian Fleming and McClory, to be used in future instalments.
I can see this working. Christopher Waltz is a damn good actor and he has so much fun playing whatever role he is in.
Waltz was practically unheard of until a few years back.
If Blofeld returns, then ridiculous volcano lairs and ninja armies also better do.

Col. Landa was literally his first major role in an English language film. Seriously, check his filmography. It's the first one.

You can't deny Tarantino really helped put him in the spotlight with Inglorious Basterds and Django.

In the international scene, that is. From what I recall he was actually very popular in his home country, or at the least played in a shitload of movies prior to Inglorious Basterds.

And thank god for that, he is fucking brilliant.
Makes one think how many other brilliant actors there are that just didn't happen to get lucky.
didn't they dance around the loss of the use of Blofeld by dumping a suspiciously bald unnamed Bond villain into a chimney
nevertheless, good for Waltz. He's a damn good actor.

that was for the older bonds, pretty sure the dispute that brought up that is irrelevant now, though, so he can totally make a comeback

Despite the loose continuity between all preceding films, Casino Royale was a reboot so now everyone can come back from the dead. Maybe they'll even bring Tracy Bond back.

Actually, I think that remake of "On Her Majesty Secret Service" is more probable than remake of any other Bond film.
Not even kidding, I was just thinking the other day that it would be neat if Blofeld came back. Uncanny.
I just hope he isnt killed off straight away - Blofeld was a long-term nemesis and I would like to see him appearing over a number of separate new Bond films, as he did in the old ones.

Considering the explosions, that cat is quite well composed.

I'd be ok with that if they give her a better death, god it was awful in the original movie.

There were rumours a while back that they might do a few direct sequels or a connected trilogy of films or something like that
