If you can get it work it's a really good game, but I wouldn't recommend it on PC unless you have the power to brute-force it and a 360 controller.

New players, get dsfix and the mouse fix if you're not playing with a controller. You need to disable ingame AA for dsfix to work.

Brute force it, what? It runs just fine on a mediocre computer. I run it on a 460 on 1920x1080 plus AA with 60FPS most of the time

Yeah it's active.
And seriously, PC version is far superior to the console versions. The biggest complaints about this game were patched up with DSFix (Resolution lock, FPS Lock). Any issues the PC version of the game has, the console version has too.
Also I don't know why someone said you have to brute-force this game, it runs pretty well. A controller is needed though.

One of my favorite games, even if the PC version of it's a bit naff.
I can't seem to get PVP to work on the PC version, but hey that's why I'm an idiot that owns the game on my console as well.

How playable is it with keyboard and mouse? It's been on my wishlist for ages but I don't want to invest even more money for a controller I'll only use for one game.

If you get the mouse fix, it's perfectly playable although you'll be at a slight disadvantage vs controller users.
Bah. I really want to play this game but I want to finish Demon's Souls first.
A friend bought it for me (I then bought him the boxed edition). Can't say I really liked it, too much is too much.
Now if only this game was available in my region.

This. I got quite far with mouse. It does feel awkward at first and takes a bit of time to get used to.

I found it extremely playable, mouse fix is a godsend and it didn't take me too long to get used to it.
Even after I bought a controller I'd find myself using the keyboard without realising it.
I like how my video gets shown at times like this.
£15 for a game that will last for a very long time. You have no excuse to not try this, just give it more than half a hour. Give it a few hours before you decide to drop this. Maybe more than a few hours.
