All eyes are on the Oscars tonight, as Hollywood’s biggest stars make their annual pilgrimage to the Dolby Theatre for a shot at recognition for a job well done. But nearby at Hollywood and Vine, nearly 500 VFX artists have gathered to protest unfair treatment as competitive pressures and international subsidies have lead to a string of studio closings. Despite the film grossing over $500 million internationally at the box office, Rhythm and Hues filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this month.

Life of Pi did indeed win the Best Visual Effects Oscar, but plans to use the acceptance speech to draw attention to the situation at Rhythm and Hues were cut short when event organizers cut the mic, loudly playing the recipients out to the theme from Jaws.
So they just cut off their acceptance speech? Rude.
that jaws shit is disgraceful. they call themselves an award ceremony cutting people off like that for "time" thinking it's clever then they have a circlejerk over (aka a commercial for) adele and some shitty broadway based films like anyone gives a shit.
[editline]26th February 2013[/editline]
and they let the actress from les go way over because the film is popular

Yep, and it wasn't because of time either, since they had only lasted a little over 40 seconds while the speech after them was over a minute.
Somebody went back and timed it, the VFX guys all got cut off around 44 seconds while everybody else got over a minute.

more proof that the Oscars are a worthless circlejerk

Yeah but thank god we got Piers Morgans opinion! I think I would've had to die unhappy if I didn't know what he thought of it.
I think it's a little bit more than rude to cut off the guys planning to use their stage for something that is actually meaningful.

They did it because the last thing Hollywood wants is for VFX artists to unionize and try to get studios to not break work laws.
I don't have much to say but I'd like preposterous bullshit like this to get more exposition.
Jaws is one of my favorite movies but putting the theme on when someone is doing a speech is cruel and rude. Oscars are full of snobs that pick things like ''Pixar's Brave'. Wreck it Ralph should of won Best animated feature
there are countless animated films that were better than brave
Ever since Tom Hanks bored everyone to sleep with a five minute acceptance speech something like fifteen years ago they really clamped down on how much tim you had to say your thank-you's.
They played the jaws theme as a way to say "okay, wrap it up."
I still feel like Cloud Atlas should have been a nominee.

It had nothing to do with time though, since Rhythm and Hues' speech time was much shorter than everyone else's.
If I was receiving that award, Id just throw it to the ground and get the fuck out of there.
My 3D modeling teacher was talking about this in class, it's a real shame.
So they just cut off their acceptance speech? Rude.
I think that's called a "Kanye Complex"
