• My Remembrance Day Ceremony

We all gathered into the gymnasium to attend the year 11 remembrance day ceremony. The entire thing was awful. Like always, the war vets would come in, dressed in uniform and given an introduction. This would be a good start until the cadets marched in. All of them were "marching" like Napoleon Dynamite, heads stretched back, some of them not even marching right with folded arms instead. An announcement is made: "May everyone rise for the playing of 'O Canada'". Someone yells "For fuck's sake!" as we stand. The Veterans didn't get that much respect as one of them went up and made a speech, pouring his heart out for the audience in which about 40-50% were talking. Taps/The Last Post was dreadful. Almost literally not a single note was hit right and at one point, the trumpet player went back and repeated himself (or "herself", I didn't see the player.). So all in all, I didn't have a good one at all. People were talking the entire way through and the sound was awful. Whenever a veteran would make a speech, you couldn't hear them. Anybody else go to a ceremony like this today? If so, I hope you had a well respected one. These Vets deserve nothing less.
I hate the way people treat veterans. Especially british veterans. Fact is, they saved this country in WW2. It makes me sad when people my age are horrible to them (and old people in general I guess)...

I mean, they don't get enough respect and all they ask for is one day to remember and they can't even give them that.
People these days...

Seriously sick. He was a fucking chav.

Generally at my HighSchool the students are nice to veterans, It may just be that 80 percent of the students are from the nearby Navy base. (I`m in the U.S.)
I skipped the ceremony at my school and ate lunch early

Here we don't do shit on remembrance day. Thing is that this is mostly about WWI and during WWI there was a conscription in Canada. This was against the will of people from Quebec but the other provinces voted for. So why should we remember how fellow citizens were sent to their death against their own will to protect the country that invaded us in the 18th century.

They were not heroes they were sent there against their will. They didn't want to be heroes and fight for a war they do not even give a shit about. The only heroes are those who fought in WW2 because WW2 was not just a thing of alliances turning badly.

Raise a glass to those who gave their lives so you could hate yours.

Remembrance Day ceremonies at my high school are basically an excuse for the musical crowd to make a spectacle about how great and talented they are. It's absolutely sickening
They didn't fight for freedom or to protect their country. We're across the fucking ocean minding our own business and then suddenly we have to help the UK who fucked us over 200 years ago ? Right...
What the fuck are you talking about. "Gave their life so you can hate yours"
A bit directed towards today's youth, not as much as you. As far as I'm concerned, you love your life as I do. It's just a growing trend that teens say "OHHHH GOD I HATE MY LIFE", and it kind of sickens me. So much has been given to them. Not all of them went over because of a draft. Think, man.
Sounds like your school sucks. The ceremony at my school is prepared and written by the students. They do a damn good job.
Sounds like your school sucks. The ceremony at my school is prepared and written by the students. They do a damn good job.
That's how it used to be. I remember in junior high when the kids actually had respect. I don't know where it went as some people were texting during today's. :sigh:
Our school's remembrance ceremony is the standard 2-minute silence outside with a lastpost at the start and end. Also the whole remembrance day/buying a poppy thing is a no-win situation because if I buy one I'm supporting the current war effort but if I don't buy one I'm not supporting the veterans.
You know, you're a real asshole. Pay respect. Not all of them went over because of a draft. Think, man.
Yeah sorry GOD SAVE THE QUEEN i'm a total dick. My grandfather had to hide in order not to be sent overseas. that is some serious bullshit right there

What really hurts me is that most of the homeless around where I live are Vietnam war veterans.
So ignore showing respect for those who did volunteer to go fight, including many from Quebec, becuase the rest of the provinces supported something Quebec didn't. Good work.
No because we're not a bunch of british dick sucking cunts
The thing that got to me was I went outside the gym and went to shake one of their hands, if not all of them for the services they have done for our country. He turned away from me and walked out the door without saying a word. Poor guy... [editline]11th November 2010[/editline]
No because we're not a bunch of british dick sucking cunts
Please stop shit posting, you're being ignorant and rude.
I am not shitposting you are just blinded by your patriotism
No because we're not a bunch of british dick sucking cunts
Then sit down and shut up about it! Don't stand up on your soapbox and whine about how unfair were for those in Quebec. The vast majority of those who served were volunteers. Many of those who were conscripted never saw combat! In both cases conscription was added late into the war and effected both English and French Canadians. You accuse him of being blinded by patriotism, yet the point you argue holds no water.
