Drakengard 3 trying to avoid 'formulaic' JRPG tropes with its dark setting

They did a GREAT job with Niers story, so I have high hopes for this. Even if the gameplay isn't the best.

It can still be ~dark~ but I am put off by the animeness. Can't take it seriously when some of the dudes look like fem-boy jpop singers or something.

Something like Dark Souls or Dragons Dogma are games created by japanese developers that do RPG's I am attracted to. Western in tone, but japanese in design.

The hell happened to Drakengard? I remember the first one being very tame in regards to the absolutely retarded tropes JRPGs drag along with them like flamboyant sweaters in medieval times, and it had an incredibly dark and disturbing atmosphere. The 2nd one was like a retarded jpop nightmare and it looks like this one is even worse despite their claims otherwise. For anyone wondering just how bad it is, here's a comparison:

I am actually kind of envisioning From Software giving the Dark Souls franchise to somebody else and then Solaire having spikey hair and anime eyes with a skinny build and trendy little accessories all over him.

I loved Drakengard, and yet I still think the Human on Dragon romance subplot was nothing compared to the bizarre endings.
