• Free Music : Let's create more awesome music and put it together as a another CD!

Hello again, this is Gregah speaking. The success of the collaboration album was over my expectations and the music itself was of top notch quality, so let's do this again. Here's the old thread if you want to read it, and if you haven't checked it out, then here's the release thread for said album. A few things will be changed this time around though, to ensure both that everyone is included and to make the quality a lot better. First off, the quality has to be .wav This is both to ensure that the music we listen to are of the finest quality (and to appease those darned audiophiles :argh:) and to make sure it can be uploaded to bandcamp. .wav takes up a lot of space, but it's losless which means no quality will be lost when being sent around. Secondly, the volume has to be -3 db A new step, but one that I think can enhance the quality a lot. If every song is on the same soundlevel, then it will sound like it's the quality product it really is and means people won't have to bother with raising/lowering the volume while enjoying the CD. I will make sure that the volume of each song is around the same level before releasing, but please keep it at -3db so that there is some standard to the volume at least. :siren: You can see how to do this a few posts below, written by Pepin:siren: Don't think your song is good enough? Ask yourself, is it good enough? There is no discrimination towards any genre whatsoever, my goal with these CDs is to help people create music (and in this particular case, promote their music even further to the great people of facepunch) and I won't listen to any tracks before release. It's only you who decide whether the music you've done or want to send is good enough. Once again, only one entry per person. This one is going to be a lot more songs though, this time we'll allow 24 songs. We're also going to let people post their best track (don't ask us what track is the best, it is YOU who decide which one you think is the best). You have to make it a .wav though. So find the original recording and remaster it, because there's no use in converting an 192 kbps track to .wav, because there will be a loss of quality. NO covers or remixes! I don't think there's a lot to say, no covers or remixes, we want original music from you. All profit will go to charity. This is still a free album that costs nothing, HOWEVER as shown in the last thread people still want to pay for the product and who are we to say no to people paying for free music? We recieved a profit of ~$50 on the last CD (actual profit is $68, but $20 of that went to bandcamp to get more download credits) which all went to UNICEF. Have a page where all your music is? Include it when you send me the submission so that I can add it to track information. All exposure is good exposure, and last CD garnered A LOT of listens (right now as I'm writing it's up at 7600 listens) so that is a lot of people checking your music out. And if people like it, they'll want to know where they can find more of your music. :) Want to have your song mastered by Yur|ko? PM your entry to him and he'll get to it Yur|ko PMed me and said he has some spare time and he'll help you master your track. I think that is all, any questions can be asked in the thread and I'll try to answer as soon as possible if you have any questions. Oh yeah, THIS HAS BEEN RELEASED :siren: CHECK IT OUT YO. I'll keep a list of the participants below. 25/24 (three tracks all sent in within an hour, I think it would've been to heartless to deny them being included with such short time marginal Gregah (Sent Rad McCool (Sent) Unknowndude (Sent) T-Bag-T dezek (Sent) healthpoint Hobo4President Patjo_sweden (Sent) thisispain (Sent) Natrox & Silent-Bob (Sent) Gibo990 Pepin wombo (Sent) killa101 (Sent) HappyWombleM no8o8 (Sent) Schmoe222 (Sent) Harmonizer (Sent) ghettochip vizard38 Trogdon Stizzles rawDMG (Sent) Lord Hayden II Bobie (Sent) Hakita (Sent) huggybear_13 Shibbey (Sent) wingless JimmyRobot (Sent) Rediscover (Sent) KanonieR (Sent) ewitwins Pal13 supreme7 (Sent) Zee (Sent) TH89 StoolTable (Sent) Smilecythe degge (Sent) AK'z (Sent) cyanidem JRF (Wablur) (Sent)

Free music! :buddy:
Hopefully someone won't steal my spot this time. >_< Ah well, I'm in.
8 more tracks should mean you'll have a spot :)
How to make a song -3db loud in Audacity 1. Load your song into Audacity. Select the whole audio file by pressing Ctrl and A. The whole song should be highlighted like below. 2. On the top bar go to effect and select normalize. Set it to these settings. This will make the highest sample in your song -3db. If there is any clipping or any ear blowing contrast in your song, you'll want to get rid of it. Dynamics in your music is good to have, but you don't want the user having to manually control the volume. 3. Click ok and your finished song will now be at -3db. Inspect it to make sure it looks good. If there are any unusual spikes, your song was clipping at some point and you'll want to fix that. Q&A Q: Will this degrade the the audio quality? A: The answer is mostly no but partially yes. There won't be any big difference with 16bit wav files. Q: Could I do this during the mastering? A: You should actually do this when you master if you know how. It'd really be a lot a better. Q: So all of the tracks will have the same loudness? A: No, they'll just have the same peak loudness, meaning that the loudest parts of every song will be the same. Q: This isn't that great of a solution. A: It is really the best way to go about it for a project like this. I don't believe anyone is going to volunteer to master all the tracks, so this is a simple solution. If you want to add this to the OP you can.
That was extremely informative, thanks Pepin :) I'll change the text a bit so that people can see how to do it.
I'll apply to this one too.
I'll see if I can get something done in time

Count me in.
Yeah Gregah put me down. Got to keep me focused on my next house song.
Count me in.
ya i'll do this man
Count me in. I was in on the last one as Snake31, but that account was hijacked and permabanned :saddowns: I'm still very interested in releasing work for this, so yeah, throw me on that list. [editline]3rd February 2011[/editline] Actually, Natrox and I will be collaborating for this if that's ok. I got him to move to Reason, and we've been working together on stuff quite frequently since. So I guess you could put us together on that list?
Ofcourse it's ok :)
Thanks bud.
I'll add you guys as Silent-Bob ft Natrox.
I'm in.
I'll add you guys as Silent-Bob ft Natrox.
You could just do Natrox & Silent-Bob, we're both putting equal effort into this :P
I am of course in.
I'm in and I'm normalizing my song right now. Where do I submit?
Put your submission up on tindeck, soundcloud or any site that can host large sound files. Enable download if you upload it on soundcloud :) And then post it here (or PM me it).
I'm all in!
Put your submission up on tindeck, soundcloud or any site that can host large sound files. Enable download if you upload it on soundcloud :) And then post it here (or PM me it).
Ok cool. I exported my song as a .wav, and it's a total of 119.21MB. Is that ok?
I would really enjoy taking part in this, but have been really depressed for a while now, and finding it hard to muster up the energy to produce. Do I have to commit to this, or can I just try and get something done, and submit it if I feel it's good enough?

Oh dis on b gud More contributing artists, more fame and fortune!
Yeah :) No commitment necessary, I'll write you up and hope you'll get better soon, depression is extremely tough to get through and most of the time you barely manage to get yourself out of the bed :/
K cool, it's uploading now on soundcloud, volume is at -3db and everything. I'll PM you it once it's done.

It's sounding pretty good and I'm hoping it turns into something.
Awesome. If you guys have any page (tindeck, soundcloud, youtube, myspace or whatever) where you have all your music then please include it/them when you send your submission so that I can add it to track information when it's released, if people like your work then they should be able to look it up right? :)
