• DVD/Bluray drive stopped existing half-way through a movie

Hey, ill just make this short as i'm now watching the movie on my PS3. I downloaded and installed the AACS plugin thingy available here: http://vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name/ and tried playing Gran Torino on my computer. It worked, though with some recurring lag spikes. My computer should be strong enough to handle a bluray movie so I thought it was just because of the unofficial plugin having some minor bugs. However, 46 mins into the movie, the video completely stopped and vlc crashed. Everything was working fine except vlc, and the drive letter for my DVD/Blurray drive was not being shown in "My Computer" It was as if the drive didn't exist. Also, pressing the eject button on the drive didn't do anything. Reboot did help this problem immediately, but i'm still wondering what could have caused it, and how to prevent it.
BD drives have an internal DRM firmware. If the DRM detects anything trying to tamper with the encryption of the content on the bluray disc, the drive will shut down. The only way to get the drive working again is to power cycle it.
What is power cycle? Reconnect the power wire to the disc drive? It's not a laptop so it can easily be done.
Shut your laptop down, unplug the charger and remove the battery, and press the power button. That should remove any remaining charge in your laptop. After powering it back up your drive should show up again.
