This build is mainly for playing games and the occasional internet browsing. It's playing on a 1280x1024 monitor. Thanks in advance.

Has gone through a lot of changes, hopefully for the better.
You can either 550 and try to unlock the other two cores, or you could get the quad-core.
The only bad thing about the 620 is that it lacks a L3 cache.
I'm not too sure how to unlock the cores, and the 620 can apparently get to 3.25ghz on air... the lack of L3 is a downer though

Unlocking cores is simple. It's just a matter of updating your BIOS then hitting a button.
I've had horrible bios updating experience, so I'll probably just take the 620
Instead of making a new thread. May i ask what are the chances that the two cores will be unlocked and usable? i've been reading at alot of them have cores that don't work.

If a quad-core has a faulty core they sometimes will disable that core and sell it as a tri-core.
You can't unlock those.
Sometimes when there is a higher demand for a dual-core or tri-core, they disable cores on a quad and sell it according to what they need.
You got a 50/50 chance.
Although with the Sargas single-cores you have a 90% chance of unlocking it to a dual-core.
That keyboard looks really uncomfortable
What looks uncomfortable about it? It's just a plain keyboard
Finally a new person who knows at least what they are talking about.
Also I have this keyboard and it is very nice.

550BE is great if you want to game, the newer i5's are pretty good

$810.87
i5 build. Ain't much but yeah. Gave it a shot.
OP go with the i5 build ^^
The thing is, it has to be in the $815 zone, AFTER tax and shipping.
Also I'm not that new, I just mostly read.
The Athlon II X4 is a shitty processor, you'd be better off with the Phenom II

No.
No.
For the price, yes.
OP, squeeze $55 and get this. You won't regret it.

Updated with Tax and Shipping to 822 (Around the area). Think you can push you budget a bit?
I probably could, but would that Lynnfield really give that much more performance over the 550? This is all going to be on stock air, and I've read that the 550 can get up to 3.8ghz on stock, with 4 cores unlocked.
The i5 is really good for overclocking. If you want to stay at stocked then go with AMD's. It's a little bit much but it's worth it.
i5 is so much better.
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/default.aspx?p=97&p2=109
Those benchmarks don't take into account that the 550 can have all 4 cores unlocked, though.
and yeah n00b it's going to stay stock cooling so I'm not sure
Still the 2 other cores are not always stable. Better to be safe than sorry.
Hmm yeah I suppose I'll use n00b's build, it looks good. I'll just throw in an extra 120mm fan because one in the back might not be enough. The power supply is cheap but by the reviews it should still be good quality, and cooler master isn't bad.
Yea, you won't be disappointed.
Alright edited the original, does it look good? Final price comes to $840, a little squeeze but should be fine.
Why not use the SideWinder? It's cheaper by 20 dollars.
[editline]02:36AM[/editline]
And this 5770
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161317
with a 10 dollar discount code.
I'll use both, and use the saved money to throw in the DVD drive that I forgot (d'oh!)
[editline]09:43PM[/editline]
Final edit made, should look good now.

Not every CPU unlocks, and even then, not every mobo can unlock... I tried it on my X3, now the temperature sensor is faulty
