• Zara pulls denim skirt over likeness to 'alt-right' mascot Pepe the Frog
    79 replies, posted
Zara has withdrawn a skirt with a frog design from its website after social media users noted its resemblance to Pepe, a cartoon popular with the so-called alt-right. Writer Meagan Fredette spotted the skirt and told Dazed: “My immediate thought was holy shit, they have no idea what they are doing here, do they?” The original link to the skirt on Zara’s website now redirects to its front page. A spokesperson for the company said the skirt has “absolutely no link” to Pepe or the alt-right. “The skirt is part of the limited Oil-On-Denim collection which was created through collaborations with artists and is only available in selected markets,” the spokesperson said. “The designer of the skirt is Mario de Santiago, known online as Yimeisgreat. Mario explores social interactions through his work and in his own words: ‘The idea came from a wall painting I drew with friends four years ago.’ “There is absolutely no link to the suggested theme.”
https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2017/apr/19/zara-pulls-denim-skirt-lookalike-pepe-the-frog-alt-right-mascot-cartoon A sad day for people who love things embroidered with frogs.
P*pe the frog
lmao
It looks more like the old guy from spongebob though?
can't fucking believe people treat a cartoon frog like it's a swastika
Imagine wearing that to the local skinhead gathering, it's only the latest and greatest in racist clothing. Think of all the feelings being hurt and Jews being insulted by frogs on a tattered denim skirt.
lmao
Your avatar is fairly appropriate for this thread.
Imagine getting upset over a fuckin' frog. Truly this is the best timeline.
I hate how every whiny teenager has access to the internet and posts their stupid shit on it.
I hate how every whiny teenager has access to the internet and posts their stupid shit on it.
Some of them are even proud that they can pull a product by being offended about it.
That doesn't even look like pepe the wrong, or should i say P*pe the frog. Seriously what the hell, who even censores something like that? And who is this person anyway and why is she considered important?
the twitter person is retarded
Seriously what the hell, who even censores something like that? And who is this person anyway and why is she considered important?
She complained on twitter and the news gods have chosen her.
Pepe is the spirit animal of the internet what you see in him is just a reflection of what you fear from the internet for real tho, if your getting upset at a frog I don't know what else to say really

Many in the social justice group will censor words with "large amounts of negative emotional connotation" (actual reason told to me by one) so that they won't accidentally trigger someone. I don't really get it, personally, because if someone has that severe of issues that they're upset by a word, they need serious help.
if i saw that skirt in a store i'm not sure that i would even recognize it as a frog
Does she really feel the need to censor "Pepe?" This is a new level of stupid.
Pepe is just a meme. He has no political affiliation. This is pretty sad to see, and her gloating about it on her Twitter is even sadder.
Listening to random twitter retards is probably the worst thing they could've done

how do u get this fragile honestly, i'm not trying to be one of those the_donald "fuck u millennial pussies grow up and face the real world!!!" types but for fuck sake she just censored the word pepe i can't imagine being this intentionally offended about everything in my day to day live
Pepe is just a meme. He has no political affiliation. Second, she isn't gloating as she is suprised. I would be suprised if something like Zara pulled because they really wouldn't care.

Pepe has, and always will be used by people of all ilk, not just the alt-right. Pepe being an alt-right symbol is a meme in itself.

When I say "p*pe", what do you instantly think? "Oh, he means pepe". The word is still being said. You're not avoiding it in any way. This is such bullshit logic.
Pretty sure it's the word search filter case rather than her actively censoring Pepe. People do it on Tumblr all the time to avoid their post coming up in searches.

Where is Pepe actually used? in imageboards, 4chan in particular. Anyone who regularly goes on 4chan (like me) will tell you that Pepe is used in all sorts of situations for all sorts of reasons. In practical usage it has nothing to do directly with the alt-right. They use it the same way anyone else does.

The frog is at home both on land and in the water, and as such it evokes something like an unsettling feeling. You can never pin down the frog, but ultimately you need to deal with it in order to interact with the underlying chaos that is the pond.

You see it often when people talk about racial slurs and it's usually to trap anyone who clarifies the word to be whatever the hip buzzword label is today.
lmao it's a fucking frog
