• Evolution: How many people really belive it?

Today, as I was walking from a little mom and pop cafe from lunch, I had a discussion about random shit. But while having this conversation, I asked a question. "So you believe we evolved from monkey's?" The person replied "No" "So you don't believe in evolution?" I said in a jokingly manner. The person replied "Nope" Now this was a little shocking to me. I began wondering about how many people didn't believe in evolution. I mean, I live in a highly religious area, but evolution is a concept that has much proof, and is an idea that makes sense, which is why Darwin thought it was correct. Its such a believable idea, I though most religious people thought God used evolution as a way to improve people genes. So, being interested in the idea, I decide to take a survey. I polled 30 people, and asked them three questions. The area is highly religious, so I figured that most if not all people believed in the Christian God. First, I asked was "Do you belive in God?" in which I recorded their response. Out of 30 people asked, all 30 said they believed in God. I kind of assumed this would happen, so it wasn't too much of a surprise. The second question I asked was "Do you agree with the Theory of Evolution", and recorded the data. Out of 30 people, who all believed in God, only 13 people said the did. That is less than half the people polled, and with all the proof and many scientific reports, these people have decided that they do no belive in Evolution. A side note on the subject, I found this video. I will leave it here. The third and final question I asked was"If you were open to the idea of Evolution, do you believe that God and Evolution can coexist?" Out of the 17 people who said the didn't believe in Evolution , 6 said they were open to this idea. My conclusion: people who look at Evolution as disapproving God could said to be, without meaning to offended anyone, ignorant. They hear an idea that something has went against their beliefs, and automatically it is wrong. If people would open themselves up a little, and looked at events as scientific that doesn't go against their beliefs, than maybe Evolution could be taught more, learned more about, and the facts straightened out.
look at college graduation rates
You don't 'believe' in facts. :downs:
I don't believe in it. It's just something the environmentalists and politicians dreamed up to put everybody in a hysteria. But if you look at the facts it just doesn't add up if you use logic.
We don't believe in evoultion because it is silly. Evolution is better though, you should check it out.
I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but the majority of sicentists don't believe we evolved from monkeys. Also, that video is stupid. It doesn't distinguish between micro and macro evolution. Since when did not believing in evolution force you to completely abandon logic? Does believing in a God automaticaly make paying 100 dollars for a peanut a good choice?
Evolution, with the modern technology, is becoming harder and harder to NOT believe.

The Theory of Evolution can't be classified as a fucking scientific law. It's in the right category. Goddamnit people, if you're going to use these words learn what they mean.
I love people who think Evolution states we evolved from monkeys. That's just dumb. Evolution claims that we (probably) evolved from a common ancestor we share with monkeys. :science:
I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but the majority of sicentists don't believe we evolved from monkeys.
Yeah no.

You can be religious and believe in evolution! It's called not being ignorant. Also, humans didn't evolve from monkeys, they evolved from apes.

Evolution claims that we (probably) evolved from a common ancestor we share with monkeys. :science:
Though since we're in the same line as monkeys, we're technically still monkeys right now. Sort of in the same way that we're still mammals.
I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but the majority of sicentists don't believe we evolved from monkeys.
Because we don't come from monkeys, we come from apes, primates actually. Monkeys are something similar, but different.

The theory of evolution is accepted by pretty much all biologists and zoologists.
Where do people get the idea that evolution states we came from monkeys? I never truly found the origin of this.
i'm a christian and i believe in evolution, got a problem?
Though since we're in the same line as monkeys, we're technically still monkeys right now. Sort of in the same way that we're still mammals.
No, we're primates, not monkeys.
It's hard to tell who in here is joking...
You can be religious and believe in evolution! It's called not being ignorant. Also, humans didn't evolve from monkeys, they evolved from apes.
Which evolved from what can be classified as monkeys. I don't see the aversion to being related to monkeys. It's not like you're a true monkey, you're still a hominid.
Though since we're in the same line as monkeys, we're technically still monkeys right now. Sort of in the same way that we're still mammals.
We evolved BESIDE monkeys, maybe. We did not evolve FROM monkeys. The two terms have completely different implications.
No, we're primates, not monkeys.
No, we're homosapiens, not primates.
It's hard to tell who in here is joking...
If it helps, I'm not joking... Yet. :smug:
Where do people get the idea that evolution states we came from monkeys? I never truly found the origin of this.
Well, evolution doesn't. Phylogenetics does.
No, we're homosapiens, not primates.
Homo sapiens are in the order of primates.
Well, evolution doesn't. Phylogenetics does.
Well, people still like to say that we came from monkeys, yet the theory of evolution clearly says that we came from primates, such as orangutans and apes.
No, we're primates, not monkeys.
Actually we're primates and monkeys. I'll let aronra explain.
Scientists are starting to turn down the theory of evolution because our cells are just so complex, it just can't change that quickly, the cell structure is just so complex it's impossible.
You don't 'believe' in facts. :downs:
If you think something is true, than you believe in it.
