On January 27, 2010, Sun was acquired by Oracle Corporation for US$7.4 billion, based on an agreement signed on April 20, 2009.

This seems to be not documented yet. But it still is pretty interesting. So far I do not like what oracle has done to the sun website. Could this be the end of all of our favorite open source software?
well this was sunexpected

Try harder

they guy that owns oracle has a personal and publicly expressed hatred towards bill gates.
Isn't Sun Microsystems some computer company or something?

They made Java.
Larry Ellison is a guy who enjoys his money, I like to see that in people.
They made Java.
And they owned MySQL, which is probably a big win for Oracle
They made Java.
They also make OpenOffice. FFFFuuuuckkkk. I hope to god they don't screw it up.
Sun... I am disappoint.

Just because there's new ownership doesn't mean there will necessarily be new developers. I have no idea how that works, but even in the worst case scenario, it's open sourced, so if the project moves in the wrong direction, another company can fork it and continue in the right direction.
Oracle has a very similar plan to Sun, just not as open source. I am pretty sure they will continue most of the things Sun does for the good publicity. But didn't this happen a while ago?

Quoting for epic.
Also what the hell, I didn't expect this at all.
I think I'll go mix some java with some sunny D

No, why would you do such a horrible thing?

Because I needed a damn pun, and well it tastes damn good.
My dad worked for Peoplesoft and they got bought out by Oracle. While Oracle is an organization of money-grubbing bastards (they trash obsolete servers, like actually pay people to destroy these things that work perfectly good), they don't dissolve the companies they buy out and they still work on the old projects, eg Peopletools.
Also, Larry Ellison is a dick.
Advocates for the continued development of OpenOffice have been busy this week, coming up with plans and ideas as to where the open-source suite should head once the Oracle-Sun merger is complete. Some are calling for Oracle to make the suite independent, while others want to see the company roll up their sleeves and dive into development on their own. Oracle, however, has declined to comment on what they have planned.
As the head of marketing for OpenOffice, John McCreesh, has issued a public statement saying that the future of OpenOffice is leading it towards becoming an independent project. He believes that having it completely detached from Oracle, both legal and in development terms, would be beneficial for OpenOffice in that it would enable them to find their own source of revenue and dictate future development on their own.
Others call for a different approach, claiming that Oracle's backing could make potential partners take it more seriously and become a stronger rival to Microsoft, as opposed to simply a free alternative. Ultimately, it’s all up to Oracle. Each proposition has its own benefits, but working independently certainly feels like the 'right' model for an open-source community.
Worse comes to worse, at least the OOo people can ditch the sinking ship.

Pun of the day
My Mum does voice over work for Oracle. Hopefully she'll get some more work with them. :)
I don't get all the hype behind open-source.
What makes you think that you're entitled to free shit?
edit:
And suddenly, james heard a loud noise in the distance.
"What's that mommy?" he asked his mother.
"what do you mean james?" She replied
"That noise! It's sounds like rain off in the distance, like a hail of something solid" He said
"That, dear james is the sound of ultimate anger. That, my son, is the sound of nerds typing paragraphs, about to be posted, For someone on the internet has insulted them."
