Howdy.
So, a friend of mine is looking to build a computer, but he only has a budget of $600.
What would be the best choice in parts for him?
What's the purpose of the build?
Does he have anything he can reuse?
hey, sorry for the late reply.
He's pretty much just looking for a build that can play games pretty well, and some upcoming games fairly well (like around medium or so settings)
And no, he doesn't have any parts he can use.
He told me he might be able to up the budget to around $700 but I'm not sure yet
I suggest you get this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1VTYJ and use integrated graphics, then save up for a dedicated graphics card. That way when you do get the dedicated graphics card, you'll have the best gaming processor you can get. Some dedicated graphics cards to look at in order of worst to best performance:

If you don't want to overclock drop the hyper 212 evo, get the 4670, and get a B85 G41 motherboard.
If you can't do this, then get a 3350P and a B85 G43 and pick from the cards above.

He said he didn't have anything that he could reuse so he's going to need an OS which will turn that build That doesn't even have a GPU into a $720 build. So this would be great for his price range and for what he wants. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1WcJQ Just use the stock cooler for now until you can get a Hyper 212 Evo($30) and then you can overclock. This build should have no problem running most games on High-Ultra and for newer titles like BF4 you can run on High-Ultra as well. Here is some gameplay with a FX 6300 and GTX 660 running it on Ultra Avg. 34 FPS but if you wanted better FPS just drop the settings to High and you'll be good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cd3vY1vH2wg P.S. in the video the CPU isn't even overclocked, so if he doesn't want to overclock just stick with the stock cooler and you will still have a really good budget gaming build.
I recommend Gigabyte's 7870 over the 660. It's only $10 more and will outperform the 660. That is, however, very over budget.
