Great game if you're a BDSM enthusiast and like to be on the receiving end of a never ending flurry of nail-studded whipping as any form of hope wanes from your frail body.

This game kicks my ass and I love it. One of the few games that I can play and enjoy despite the incredible difficulty.
I love games like this and had fun playing it up until a point. The difficulty combined with the permadeath means that a lot of this game is trial and error unless you read a wiki, and progression is severely limited as a result of losing one of your high level ranks (which take a lot of time to produce often) so basically unless you're a bloody expert in the mechanics it gets real drab and repetitive real quick.
It was fun for the first 20 hours or so but it never really evolved past that point for me specifically.

it's basically just an experience of dread boiled down to its very essence. Powerful and interesting in that regard, but super tiring
the game could easily be fixed with one change; high level characters can go back and do easy dungeons with lower level characters.
its complete artificial difficulty due to you having to grind so fucking hard to be able to have the base upgrades and money to afford suiting up a go team for the hard dungeons. I know you're supposed to lose people, but being set back literally 2 hours worth of work is never a fun experience.

Took me a while to get into it because I couldn't play it the way I usually played this sort of game. Usually, a game where you recruit your characters and build them up over many quests/missions/ect I would try to build up a single team and just make them unstoppable supersoldiers and make sure none of them ever die. In Darkest Dungeon, you're not building a dream team. You're building an army and the sooner you realize that all your guys are expendable, the better. You'll put in hours and hours into building up characters and they will die suddenly and tragically and sometimes the RNG fucks you so bad there's no way you could have avoided it.
