• I need a conclusion on the most famous comparison: ATi vs. nVidia.

You have probably seen litteraly tens of thousand of these topics but I wanted to turn to Facepunch for a quick yet reliable answer. This is, after all, an honest community compromised of decent and intelligent people. A friend and I had some discussions about whether he should spend his money on ATi or nVidia. I told him —after some years of ATi— that turning to nVidia would be the better idea. This wasn't about the technical side of such an argument but more about the 'ethical' side. Whether the Tech Support is okay, the driver updates are good and whether you're better off with an ATi for the long run or not. The friend is kind of 'ignorant' when it comes down to the Internet and tech stuff, therefore he is rapidly convinced about what people say. He's only been online for about 2 to 3 years and hasn't discovered the magic of cross-forums research yet. Just a simple answer will do. It'd be great to help my friend and myself out. Based on my 10-year experience with ATi (6 of which I paid attention to the tech stuff) have thaught me that ATi is like a new car with super-expensive fuel. Only good for short-term use.
There is no conclusion both of them are good buys.
Simple answer: buy whatever best fits your needs and price range, regardless of brand.
It is always changing. As of right now Dx11 belongs to nvidia, but ATI is still king of Dx10 and under. IMHO.
Imo there is no "Best" Option. Choose whatever is best value for money/performance depending on your specifications.
There isn't really a 'better' one. It's more a matter of personal preference.I personally prefer ATI at the moment mainly because of their strong DX11 graphics cards with the HD 5870 being my favourite. When Nvidia releases their DX11 card it will be a tough competition but as we speak today I would advise buying an ATI.
If you want PhysX you need a Nividia card, but there aren't many games that makes good use of PhysX except for Cryostasis and Batman: Arkham Asylum.
When nvidia releases their DX11
GTX4xx? And 480>5870>470>5850, and with Dx11 480>470>5870>5850... yeah
Nvidia right now, but still ATI on a budget.
Do not think of the companies as competitors. Imagine they are just one company with a list of products. At each price range, there is the best card you can buy with the money you have.
