Iceland has issued a red alert to aviation after indications of a possible eruption under the country's biggest glacier, the Vattnajokull. The Icelandic Met Office warned that a small eruption had taken place under the Dyngjujokull ice cap. Seismic activity is continuing at the Bardarbunga volcano, about 30km away. Airspace over the site has been closed, but all Icelandic airports currently remain open, authorities say. A Europe-wide alert has also been upgraded.
BBC News: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-28913165 Let's hope this doesn't disrupt worldwide flights like last time
Here we go again, it's part 2
funny, earlier today they said there wasn't going to be a problem

I hope it does disrupt flights, last time it happened the skies were so nice and clear.

Flying out of London tomorrow, I'd like to see it try and stop me..
As annoying (and expensive) as closing down air traffic is, I love volcanoes so much, and we're gonna get a lot of footage of this one simply because it's gonna affect Europe.
Flying out of London tomorrow, I'd like to see it try and stop me..
no you can never leave britannia
I hayte Oiceland I HAYTE OICELAND
Quick question, does anyone know what the USAF does when the airspace over Europe is closed by things like this? Because I have 5-10 C-17s pass over my house at cruise altitude every day, and I assume they're carrying important shit to the Middle East. Do they literally just fly around the ash cloud to the south/north?
I hope it does disrupt flights, last time it happened the skies were so nice and clear.
That's a nice bubble you're living in..

This is why we can't have nice flights.

The BBC not even bothering to spell it right hurts me deeply. "Bardarbunga" "Bárðarbunga"
The BBC not even bothering to spell it right hurts me deeply. "Bardarbunga" "Bárðarbunga"
Oh no, they forgot an accent mark that doesn't make the vowel sound any different and a weird symbol that functions almost the exact same as a "d" http://www.forvo.com/word/b%C3%A1r%C3%B0arbunga/ [editline]24th August 2014[/editline] Not to mention they speak English in Britain, not Icelandic, so no shit they're not going to use the other language's sybmols when they have their own alphabet that does the job just fine.
And it's been lowered again http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-28917495
I hope it does disrupt flights, last time it happened the skies were so nice and clear.
Fuck you I have a holiday to go on in 2 weeks. I need to get away and this is my last chance
My parents are supposed to fly to Scotland through London -> Glasgow tomorrow, hope this doesn't fuck up their plans.
the volcano gods are angry the police force shot someone
Flying out of London tomorrow, I'd like to see it try and stop me..
In a crazy twist of events the plane is broken and it doesn't look like I'm leaving :(
I hope it does disrupt flights, last time it happened the skies were so nice and clear.
It made for some very neat sunsets in Europe, because of the microscopic ash particles in the air. Also, doesn't this volcano being under the world's largest glacier mean we're in a shitton of trouble?
god fucking damnit iceland stop it
No.
In a crazy twist of events the plane is broken and it doesn't look like I'm leaving :(
The volcano is totally responsible somehow.
