So lately my computer has been emitting random discrete high pitched noises. The noise sort of reminds me of what my old TV used to sound like when displaying white colors, except now it doesn't seem to have anything to do with what's being rendered on my screen at all.
When I went to bed today I started hearing this noise even when the computer was turned off, I approached my computer and noticed a high pitched noise emitting constantly from my monitor which was on. I turned it off and the noise got wobbly and then continued in another tone. It stops when I unplug the power or VGA cable to the monitor.
Now when the computer is on I can hear the random discrete noises coming from my computer, but when I lean in to listen it seems to be emitting from my monitor.
I'd say my GPU is dying, been having noise related problems with it before(although only when playing certain games). Just want some other opinions before I go wasting money on something I don't really need
I'd say it's your monitor. A GPU can't cause a monitor to emenate sounds deliberately.
Just figured since unplugging the VGA cable makes my monitor go quiet, as well as cutting the power to the computer.
Well as I said, even if it is some signal from the cable that makes the monitor go whining there's no signal you can put through a vga cable that should do that. So it's still on the monitor side.

Did you recently plug in a new adapter (or do you have an adapter for your screen)?
I have got a Logitech mouse with an adapter and it emit's a high pitch noise (like your tv) when it is plugged in.
Nope, no recent changes whatsoever. Except maybe a few accidental bumps

doesn't have to be new. An adapter could start making that noise at random and there might be one in your monitor.
Crt or lcd btw?
LCD. At the moment I can only hear noises from my computer though

Open your case and see which component is making the noise.
I think it's the GPU, it's very hard to hear

Gpu doesn't make noises instead for the fan. Could it be the fan?
I guess that's not impossible, it seems to be sensitive to vibrations. Giving the computer a light tap affects the sound

Open your case and stop the fan with your finger. See if the sound goes away.
