It is being reported that some hotels are still under construction, rooms that are ready have doorknobs falling off and journalists are finding some odd bathroom design choices.
Sorry if late, but this is a goldmine, there's more in the link.

It's been years since I read it.
About the only commonality observed in hotel rooms that wasn't strange water. [editline]5th February 2014[/editline]
What was wrong with Land of the Soviets? It's been years since I read it.
It was full of stereotypes of the time mainly, and the sequence with Tintin killing a bear with his bare hands seemed a bit out of place.
Wow. This sounds like it's going to be a giant disaster.

They're offering my father $3000 a day to go there and run some light show thing. He told them that his price is $1,000,000 a day. Apparently they're really desperate because they keep doubling their offer daily :v:
That's what happens when most of the construction money doesn't go past bureaucrats' pockets
sochi bathroom rules no fishing in toilets pls
Of course they have fucking squatting on there.

Reminds me of those old "only in russia" images that used to circulate back in the early 2000s. ya know, this is a horrible thing to say, but I hope something happens that makes the IOC go "oh, maybe we shouldn't let countries that have fucking insane leadership and virtually no living standards for 99% of the country hold the olympics"
Hope Russia is prepared to be the laughing stock of the world
ya know, this is a horrible thing to say, but I hope something happens that makes the IOC go "oh, maybe we shouldn't let countries that have fucking insane leadership and virtually no living standards for 99% of the country hold the olympics"
yeah i really don't see why the olympics is allowed to go to countries with problems as glaring as russias (and chinas when they got the olympics) [editline]5th February 2014[/editline] (well i do see really, corruption etc)
[thumb]http://acidcow.com/pics/20131209/only_in_russia_44.jpg[/thumb]
Russia is taking their Tetris legacy into the third dimension when you close it the wall disappears (because it falls over)

It has a lot of problems but the nation is functional and most people can live there in peace. Stop shitting on people's lives.
I wonder if the dressers in the rooms are stuffed to the brim with track suits.
I wonder if the dressers in the rooms are stuffed to the brim with track suits.
If, by track suits, you meant jack shit, you're probably right :v:
If, by track suits, you meant jack shit, you're probably right :v:
track suits are a staple crop in russia. they grow them in high yield fields
Russia isn't some developing shithole nation. It has a lot of problems but the nation is functional and most people can live there in peace. Stop shitting on people's lives.
to be honest you need to be more than "functional" to host an international event
to be honest you need to be more than "functional" to host an international event
It is more than functional. I keep reading posts suggesting otherwise.
As an architecture student: I cringed, then chuckled, then cringed again. I can't even begin to imagine how many structural corners they've probably cut to get these buildings up and ready ahead of the Olympics. I'm sure American structural engineers and AIA inspectors would be nothing short of horrified. Half of the buildings standing probably don't even fall within the IBC (International Building Code) v:v:v [editline]5th February 2014[/editline] I mean, they're in a coastal zone which means everything should be Category III, but they're probably building them like huts over there.
It is more than functional. I keep reading posts suggesting otherwise.
Well, these hotels and facilities and poison piss-water clearly shows they're not qualified to hold the Olympics.
