Obama as the Devil - General

I just got photoshop and tried out some of the filters, really cool stuff, pretty impressive since I only just started, don't you think? [img]http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/4521/32520690.jpg[/img] Constructive criticism only please.

you used liquefy and then you filter raped it. go do some photoshop tutorials, and then do some more. this isn't thread worthy, if anything it should have gone into the creative work that doesn't deserver a thread, thread. other then that, the colors don't work too fantastically with each other, and the left side should be more like the right side in terms of colors/contrast. you can't even see his right ear (our left)

So what did I do wrong? I shouldn't use filters? Because there's loads of them, it seems like a waste not to use them...

Filters can be useful but shouldn't be used just on their own. So they are merely apart of the technique. Check some text effect tutorials and you'll see what I mean.

This is not very good, not that exciting, doesn't catch my interest at all. Try to put more effort into it, make it more "breathtaking". And read every post in your thread, it has all the C&C you need.

That's pretty goddamn bad, even for a beginner. I was planning on pointing out all the things that are wrong with it (trust me, there are a lot) but instead, I'll just say this; look at it. What do you think of it? Can't you tell it's not well done and looks terrible? Yes, you made it and you're new, but that's no excuse. Do you think that a modeller could apply at valve, show a crappy model and justify it by saying he was new, and get the job? Of course, you're going to argue something like "I'm not applying at valve - this is just for fun". If you do, you've really misunderstood my post. If you can't accept critisim from those who are honestly judging your work, then you shouldn't be working with a creative medium (in this case, photoshop). Filters are bad to use because it shows that you are too armature to do the effect in a more personalized way by yourself, and it shows that you didn't really know what you were doing but just were doing things at random to see how it works. Which by the looks of things are exactly what you did. Which is fine to do if you are new and experimenting, but don't post it anywhere and expect people to think it looks good, love it, or be interested in it.

Where are his horns? He doesn't look like a devil at all.

I improved vastly back in the day when I first started posting here, it's that kind of pressure to improve yourself that helps to improve yourself, provided you can take it as a positive inspiration in the first place.
