Zevon's work has often been complimented by well-known musicians, including Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young.[1] His best-known compositions include "Werewolves of London", "Lawyers, Guns and Money", "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner" and "Johnny Strikes Up The Band", all of which are featured on his 1978 sophomore release, Excitable Boy. Other well-known songs written by Zevon have been recorded by other artists, including "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" (a top 40 hit by Linda Ronstadt), "Accidentally Like a Martyr", "Mohammed's Radio", "Carmelita", and "Hasten Down the Wind". Along with his own compositions, Zevon recorded or performed occasional covers, including Bob Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" and Leonard Cohen's "First We Take Manhattan". He was a frequent guest on Late Night with David Letterman and the Late Show with David Letterman. Letterman later performed guest vocals on "Hit Somebody! (The Hockey Song)" with Paul Shaffer and members of the CBS Orchestra.
After listening to his one song they play every day on the radio around here I got curious and googled the lyrics to find this guy. That was a few days ago and I've been listening to his stuff since and haven't found a song I haven't loved yet. The song in question and the one I would assume most people would know him by. (If you've never heard it before you may recognize the piano which was sampled for Kid Rock's 'All Summer Long') Werewolves of London My personal favorite of his(video image and intro make him seem like a wiener but it turns out to be amazing) Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner My Shit's Fucked Up (comedy obviously) Lawyers, Guns and Money Excitable Boy (live) He's one of those outsiders of music who's been around for years making great material being loved by other artists and close fans and never really getting the recognition he deserves.
He died! Wow, didn't know that :smith:
Warren Zevon is certainly one of the most underrated musicians ever. My mom played his cassettes in the car when I was younger all the time.
Warren Zevon has a particular voice you need to get used to when listening. It's like when you listen to David Gilmour or Mark Knopfler, you need a while to get into it to truly appreciate its beauty. He deserves so much more appreciation.
