I still can't figure out why they shut down irrational. They were a successful studio that made great games...so they closed up shop?

Probably for the same reason Kojima Productions was shut down: too much friction between the creative talent and the upper management.

The stated reason seemed to be a tiredness of the triple-A dev cycle. Which is understandable, there's little room for creative expression and the indie industry has been more viable than ever, so a lot of professionals have left the triple-A grinder to find a better work environment.

And by viable you mean saturated to a point that you can't really succeed unless you make loft goals, a game that's easy to do LPs with or outrageous in some regard whether its the developer saying something or the game proclaiming something.

I wouldn't have backed this because the premise is vague at best, I've read about it many times and all I can remember is "ex bioshock devs 50s aesthetic art or something time travel maybe"
