• Steve Jobs: Watching Apple Fail In The 90s Was Like Being The Mother Of A Cannibal Serial Killer
During Steve Jobs’s so-called “Wilderness Years” after he left Apple in 1985 but before his triumphant return to the company in 1997, the company went woefully astray, releasing dud product after dud product and seeing its market share and influence erode as PC makers like Dell took Cupertino’s once proud crown. Only Steve Jobs’s triumphant return to the company in 1997 righted Apple’s course and made it the company it is today, but speaking to journalist Brent Schlender — who interviews Steve dozens of times over a quarter-century — Jobs said that watching Apple’s disgrace while he was away from the company was like watching your own child turn into a serial killer. “Imagine if you’re the mother of, you know, some bad kid,” Jobs says. “You’re Jeffrey Dahmer’s mother. Or you’re the mother of some kid who’s turned into a robber … robbed banks or something, been to jail. I don’t equate Apple with that, but in a way I do…. You never stop loving your kid.” Jeffrey Dahmer was an American serial killer and sex offender who 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. His murders involved rape, dismemberment, necrophilia and cannibalism. So this is a pretty extreme comparison. During the same clip, recorded sometime between 1993 and 1996, Steve Jobs is also very hard on current Apple CEO Michael Spindler, the man in charge of Apple during the introduction of some of Cupertino’s biggest failures, including the Newton and Copland operating system. Spindler, according to Steve, wouldn’t even return his calls. A couple years later, of course, things were very different, and Steve was again on top at Apple.
http://www.cultofmac.com/165670/steve-jobs-watching-apple-fail-in-the-90s-was-like-being-the-mother-of-a-serial-killer-video/ The 90's were pretty bad for Apple, but I'm not sure that is a completely fitting comparison. It's an entertaining one, though. :v:
Jeffrey Dahmer was an American serial killer and sex offender who 17 men and boys
Did he accidently them? [editline] [/editline] Amuses me how easy it is to verbs out of sentences
Did he accidently them?
no he purposefully them
steve jobs was a dickhole so the fact he used jeffrey dahmer in his analogy is not surprising
steve jobs was a dickhole so the fact he used jeffrey dahmer in his analogy is not surprising
I don't see a connection.
i feel like steve wasn't even that much of a dick everyones just siccing
Or even worse... Being the mother of Steve Jobs.
I don't see a connection.
Steve Jobs metaphorically killed, raped and tortured young men across the country when he forced them to buy his shitty products.
Steve Jobs metaphorically killed, raped and tortured young men across the country when he forced them to buy his shitty products.
He didn't force anyone to buy anything. He advertised, they bought. His products aren't shitty, they're actually pretty good. I don't buy Apple because I like my Android and my Windows, but you're more sensationalist than Fox News.
i feel like steve wasn't even that much of a dick everyones just siccing
No, he was a really really bad guy.
Yeah, if I ever start a company I'll be sure to make sure I'm the only head. I'd rather not lose a power struggle like Jobs did and have to leave.

The thing people gloss over is that Steve Jobs was a terrible CEO when he started the company. He would not have done much better. Steve Jobs only got good at leading after his failed NEXT company and helping start up Pixar, which would not have happened had he not been ousted.

[editline]8th May 2012[/editline]
No, he was a really really bad guy.
Worse than Hitler. :v:
And now he will watch it fail from his grave. Seriously, they didn't even name the new iPad.
Seriously, they didn't even name the new iPad.
And yet it's still selling better than any other product they've sold before.
I thought Microsoft bailed out Apple in 1997? It wasn't Steve Jobs' 'triumphant return' that saved the company, it was Microsoft's $150 million check...
I don't see a connection.
whats there not to understand he was a massive asshole, he made an assholish statement. no need to attempt to point flaws in absolutely everything on the internet because you'd waste alot of time doing so eh
i feel like steve wasn't even that much of a dick everyones just siccing
The reason that Steve Jobs is trashed on here continuously is because when he died everyone acted as though he was some sort of technical messiah, ignoring his real impressive accomplishment, that he managed to survive for decades with his head stuck completely up his own ass.

(that and the fact that MS is making quite a lot of android as well)
oddly enough i'd feel that way if i were the mother of steve jobs
That makes sense, since Apple is the Jeffrey Dahmer of companies.
Doesn't surprise me Jobs would find an assholish and offensive way to refer to anything, but that's what he was good at.

Woz didn't really do anything after the Apple II, and had nothing to do with what the company became in the last ten years. Wozniak was brilliant at what he did, but he didn't do that much to transform technology compared to what Jobs did.
