I'm thinking about upgrading my computer.
my specs are:
Amd phenom 2 x2 BE @ 3.1ghz
Ati radeon 4890
Asus M4A785T-M
4gb of memory
2tb hard drive
650w PSU
on a dual screen setup
Wich one would be better?
1- Changing my cpu for a Phenom 2 x4?
2- Changing my cpu for a phenom 2 x6?
3- Changing my video card for a 6870?
If you upgrade your graphics card, you should also upgrade your CPU.
You won't need a 6 core CPU, just get a quad core one.
So, definitely option 1, and try for number three too.
Phenom II X4 955
Unlock your other cores (or try anyway) and go for a 6870
^this
Ya actually, I can unlock 1 of the 2 locked core, the other one makes me crash, but it's still 1 more, You think that with a x3 I can take the 6870 without bottlenecking?
Yes.
Very few games actually use all four cores of your CPU so you shouldn't notice much of a performance decrease from the quad, depending on how many background tasks you are running
