• DICE: Star Wars Battlefront is a 'scary' task
The pressures and expectations associated with developing the upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront are "scary", according to a senior staff member at DICE. The Sweden based studio is currently putting the finishing touches on Battlefield 4, but its next project will mark the rebirth of the Star Wars: Battlefront series. While giving a talk at BAFTA in London, executive producer Patrick Bach explained how DICE ended up with the Battlefront licence and how intimidated the studio felt when offered it. "We had a discussion at the office about what happened to Battlefront. You know, the old IP that someone else made that was a rip-off of Battlefield. Bastards! We should've made it. It was a competition of powers. We couldn't do both at the same time," Bach said, as quoted by IGN. "For some reason EA was negotiating with George Lucas as to who should make the new Star Wars games. And just a week later it was like, 'Oh, by the way, that discussion you were having about Star Wars? Do you want to make it?' 'Well, yeah.'" Bach explained that once the studio was put in charge of the project, the mood quickly changed to fear. Between this and previous statements, they seem genuinely excited to be working on the project but still want to give it the respect it needs. Here's hoping, right?
Hopefully its not just Star Wars-skinned BF4 I trust DICE to get it done well, I'm just worried about EA putting artificial deadlines in place and releasing the game before its ready
Hopefully its not just Star Wars-skinned BF4 I trust DICE to get it done well, I'm just worried about EA putting artificial deadlines in place and releasing the game before its ready
The first thing they said after announcing this was that it wasn't going to be a cheap reskin of Battlefield.
DICE will either get massive respect points if they pull it of correctly or ruin everyone's favorite game.
The first thing they said after announcing this was that it wasn't going to be a cheap reskin of Battlefield.
Dice's word means nothing in that regard.

I'm convinced EA execs will come in at the 11th hour and demand that content be cut out and turned into paid DLC and microtransaction farming.
It better come out for PC. I don't have a PS3 anymore and don't really plan on buying a PS4.
The best thing DICE could possibly do would be to make BF2143 first, and use that to put their feet back into the water of the Sci-Fi realm. That way they can ensure they have everything down, and don't fuck Battlefront up.

Make sure it's Battlefront 3 and not Battlefield: Star Wars Edition and you'll be set.

Kind of like the first (awful) Medal of Honor reboot was basically a demo-trial for BF3. With the way DICe is now, Battlefront 2 will only be a massive disappointment.
Considering how pissy people get these days over even the slightest details I can't say I blame them for being scared.
Why would you be worried of that of all things? DICE always released on PC
Minus Bad Company of course.
If I can drive an AT-ST the same way I'd operate a vehicle in Frostbite BF, then I will die a happy man.
It's hilarious that they're more worried about making a star wars variant battlefield than they are about making battlefield itself.
It better come out for PC. I don't have a PS3 anymore and don't really plan on buying a PS4.
Yeah, cause DICE made this awesome next generation engine just to leave out the platform that it was designed for.
Yes, it is terrifying, because this is actually by DICE LA, the people who made the 2 new MOH games.
Yes, it is terrifying, because this is actually by DICE LA, the people who made the 2 new MOH games.
Except it's not, and the article even says it. This one is being developed by DICE Stockholm which is the main team.
Except it's not, and the article even says it. This one is being developed by DICE Stockholm which is the main team.
Well thank goodness, I nearly had a heart attack then.
Except it's not, and the article even says it. This one is being developed by DICE Stockholm which is the main team.
So it is, I'm no longer as terrified now.
The first thing they said after announcing this was that it wasn't going to be a cheap reskin of Battlefield.
Didn't they also say that they wouldn't stoop to premium service, map packs and stuff?
i hope they focus on the third person perspective, that would also help to separate it from being too much like Battlefield
i hope they focus on the third person perspective, that would also help to separate it from being too much like Battlefield
First person would bring something to the series that has never been there. Imagine FP as one of the heroes (Vader, Luke, Obi-wan), or even a Droideka... that would be nuts.
Toggle-able would be nice. I remember you could do that in the first two, but there was no arms/guns in 'first person'. I just want my space battles back.
Toggle-able would be nice. I remember you could do that in the first two, but there was no arms/guns in 'first person'. I just want my space battles back.
I always remember having weapons in first person, huh :v:
its cool that they're doing this but i will never be not pissed at that version of battlefront 3 that got scrapped when it was nearly done
Toggle-able would be nice. I remember you could do that in the first two, but there was no arms/guns in 'first person'. I just want my space battles back.
yeah there were, i only ever played in first person.
Toggle-able would be nice. I remember you could do that in the first two, but there was no arms/guns in 'first person'. I just want my space battles back.
Battlefront 2 definitely had first person models. For sure.
As much as I loved Battlefront as a kid can we all agree battlefront never really set that high of a bar? Honestly the game is fun but the gameplay is dated as fuck by now and the only bar set by those games is I think it's one of the top selling franchise based video games of all time. Dice could literally do almost anything within their power and I still think it would trump battlefront 1 and 2. As long as it's not a battlefield reskin. I think their biggest task is that they have to make the game seem much much bigger in scale than any Battlefield game in terms of epicness. Just imagine massive AT-ATs in Hoth in next-gen graphics with 64 players, it's going to be hard to nail that feeling of finally being in a massive star wars battle. Also can we just take a step back and realize fucking DICE IS MAKING A BATTLEFRONT GAME? Back then nobody in a million years would have ever thought that Battlefront, a game heavily trying to kind of copy the battlefield franchise would have an installment made by the people who made Battlefield.
