Hello Games' studio was flooded on Christmas Eve after a nearby river broke its bank, resulting in the loss of computers, furniture and personal items. However, those located in the flood risk zone are not covered for damages.
AKA "why getting flood insurance in a flood risk zone is a waste of your money".
This situation just gets worse and worse.
Man, that's shit. I hope that they actually did manage to save/recover the data and game's files.
Oh god it's High River all over again.
Oh Jeeze. Doesn't common law have some sort of catch-all figure like "You can't put a clause in a contract that makes it completely useless"?

Most of the damages are probably physical stuff like hardware etc. [editline]28th December 2013[/editline]
I could go down the road and help them! i don't see anything relating to flood insurance it should be common knowledge that regular insurance doesn't cover flood damage if you're in an at risk area. but it's not. sucks.
These guys seem incredibly optimistic... Maybe they're ghosts. Anyway, I like their mindset. If I wrote those twitter messages, there would most likely be profanity.
These guys seem incredibly optimistic... Maybe they're ghosts. Anyway, I like their mindset. If I wrote those twitter messages, there would most likely be profanity.
Well going by the most recent interviews they seem abit humble and pretty kind.
Oh Jeeze. Doesn't common law have some sort of catch-all figure like "You can't put a clause in a contract that makes it completely useless"?
As far as I am aware of, flood insurance is usually a specific type of insurance you must get. Who ever is in charge of doing their insurance sure boo booed up
I could picture them walking into their flooded studio and softly saying "aw fiddlesticks"
As far as I am aware of, flood insurance is usually a specific type of insurance you must get.
I could go down the road and help them! Their office is right next to where I used to work
Be a guy and help them out. So, do Hello Games need to start from Scratch or do they have a back up?
This amuses me

It's not even Hello Games it's also those people who lost everything but nope lol "Flood risk zone = No Flooding Insurance!"
How a company can just blatantly steal money from people is beyond me.
How a company can just blatantly steal money from people is beyond me.
You live in America, you shouldn't be so baffled by this concept.
It must just be because my town gets flooded every couple years, but I swore this was common knowledge? Regardless, I never heard of these guys before, but their publicly bright attitude is awesome
This is why you're better off saving the money you would normally spend on insurance and put it in a savings account for emergencies. All they are, are money grabbers. They take your money for the off chance you need it later and then turn around and fuck you in the ass saying "lol you don't get your money back because X". Fuck insurance companies.
Garry please help them. :(
Why would the insurance company even sell them Flood insurance to begin with, if it's completely useless.
Why would the insurance company even sell them Flood insurance to begin with, if it's completely useless.
Either because they're an evil insurance company or because of a series of mistakes on both sides, like not knowing about the uselessness of the insurance in their case, and the insurer not thinking to doublecheck/thinking that people would read the contract
I only just heard about this game recently. It looked like Infinity: Quest for Earth, but way better and not vaporware.
There are companies that specialise in high risk flood insurance, which is the reason a normal insurance company wont cover it. As bad as this is, they should have checked their insurance policy given that they knew they are in a high risk area. (Assuming they did know, if they actually own their office pretty sure it would have come up while purchasing it) At the same time though, the insurance company shouldn't have insured them. I'm 99% sure after some serious flooding a few years ago it was made illegal to do this sort of thing. If it wasn't, it probably should be.
AFAIK, insurance companies can arbitrarily remap the "at risk" areas.
I hope there'll be a way to donate to them.
goodbye games
I hope there'll be a way to donate to them.
Humble Joe Danger Bundle

Insurance companies are necessary because saving for these types of things isnt possible.
