http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=15143191 Phenom X6 2.8GHZ Gigabyte AMD 970 Motherboard 8GB 1600 DDR3 Corsair Sapphire 6850 1GB Rosewill 650w PSU I don't want to go over $700 if anybody has any suggestions on what to change. I'm just going to use the hard drive and blu-ray drive from the build I have now.
You'd be better of with a 2500k if you're going to use it for more then solely gaming.
What Naos said, other than that don't get a G110, get a proper mechanical keyboard or just a cheapy one until you can get one, don't get ram with massive heatspreaders and you're overpaying anyway, and I have no idea how the Rosewill's fair as they're neweggs own brand and I can't use newegg.
I guess I can ditch the keyboard and get the i5, but is it really that much better than the AMD 6-core?
$50 for mouse/keyboard, if you're need the 8gb ram (for games there's no performance difference) then you have $30 for mouse/keyboard.
That motherboard looks flaky. Then again, most every motherboard on Newegg seems to have a lot of bad reviews lately. I'll keep looking for a motherboard. And I do a lot of photoshop work with big 600dpi banners so I need a fair amount of RAM.
Go with 8gb then http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231422, the motherboard is great I don't see a problem. It's $665 with the 8gb kit. Use your current mouse/keyboard and get a hyper 212 evo or spend the rest on something like: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tested-IBM-Model-M-Keyboard-White-42H1292-Date-12-6-1995-/110753091589?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item19c9661005#ht_941wt_1153
At least go with something like a 6gv2 or blackwidow if you're not all that into the IBM keyboard. Although, there are RK-9000 in stock now, i would totally get that.
But those things are like $80+ and are worse to type on, but they do have extra features that modern users might want like jacks or gamen keys, he could just get a $5 rubber dome really, but lowering to an X6 and a 6850 for the sake of a G110 is stupid.
I wouldn't say that they are worse to type on, i prefer MX blacks over the blues even for typing despite that they are linear. Its quite obvious that if someone wants a G110, then the person might not enjoy the appearance of a model M, hence the blackwidow.
You're correct but it's out of budget so it's really not an option for him.
I just want a nice keyboard with backlighting. All the cheap logitech keyboards apparently have issues with hitting W+SHIFT+SPACE, which is kind of important in FPS games.
If you can't afford a proper mechanical keyboard right away but don't have anything to type on, then just go with like a 5 dollar rosewill rubber dome for now and buy something decent once you have the money.
