• AMD Phenom II X6 1055T or X4 965BE?

I can't decide between these two processors for my upgrade. The Phenom II X6 2.8GHz 1055T or the Phenom II X4 3.4GHz 965 Black Edition? I am primarily a gamer, but occasionally do things like render videos, compile source maps, etc. I am planning on getting a separate cooler (this). I am also planning on overclocking, at least a little bit. I am upgrading from an Athlon X2 6000+ 3.0GHz that's not overclocked. Because I already have 6GB of DDR2 memory, I am going to get an am2/am2+/am3 motherboard, unless there's a good reason I should get a solely AM3 motherboard that only has DDR3 support? However, if I get a DDR3 motherboard, I will get a much cheaper quad core AMD CPU in order to cut down on costs. The graphics card I have is an ATI 5850, which is probably being bottlenecked really badly. I think my current CPU is getting worse or my card is going bad, because I used to get 200 FPS on L4D2 with my current setup, but now I get around 45. :saddowns: If you want, you can also recommend a good motherboard to me, because I haven't made a final decision. I don't want to spend very much over $100 on one though. Thanks for the help.
X4 965 especially if you are gaming a lot and doing some render videos, etc... That's sufficient for you.
X4 965 especially if you are gaming a lot and doing some render videos, etc... That's sufficient for you.
That's what I thought and that's what others have told me, I just needed a second opinion. Thanks.
the 965 is a 955 with a tiny overclock save some money, go with the 955
If you can overclock, listen to reapaninja For your motherboard go with a good ASUS 890GX (with USB 3.0-SATA III features for future upgrade)
Alright, then I guess I'll get the 955, 2GB of DDR3 RAM, and the 890GX, and until I get more money I'll stick with the stock cooler and only 2 gigs of RAM.
If you can overclock, listen to reapaninja For your motherboard go with a good ASUS 890GX (with USB 3.0-SATA III features for future upgrade)
Can you SLI with that mobo?
Can you SLI with that mobo?
You can Crossfire but not SLI.
You can't SLI on AMD mobos, except some ones, but it's rare.
nForces you can, I found one anyways. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130236
