• Message about computer shutting down in 30 seconds when connecting to wifi

I found a laptop at the dump, it had the wifi card removed, i put one in and installed the drivers. Whenever i connect to my wifi a message pops up saying: "INTERNET ACCESS! Event has been logged. Time to system shutdown: 30 seconds" (counting down) What in the name of goats is this? And how do i get rid of it?
(Assuming this is Windows & you didn't bother to format it before using it for some reason...) Sounds like a policy setting which would be cleared if you formatted the machine and installed a fresh operating system.
I found a laptop at the dump
is it visibly damaged?
Reinstall the system, someone made a joke and now things turned bad. Just reinstall the operating system if you can.
is it visibly damaged?
It's in top condition, not a single scratch, battery lasts 3 hours and everything. No i have not reinstalled it, i was too lazy and Windows XP is a pain in the ass to find all drivers for.
Install something else than Windows XP then, it's not supported anymore anyway. [editline]6th August 2014[/editline] Also not reinstalling would just be retarded, who knows what the previous owner put on there...
If you don't want to use XP for the drivers you can always install something like Ubuntu on it, and have everything work without touching a damn thing, no drivers to install either most likely.
Problem is i don't think it will run Windows 7, not because it does not handle it, but because there are no drivers for it, i know XP is unsupported but that does not really make a difference for the average user as long as they have virus protection, i don't want linux on it either because there is not alot of programs i use that run on it :c
Last time I installed 7 on a winXP laptop everything worked fine. The company who made the laptop probably uploaded the drivers on their website, but check the sites out before installing 7, or at least made a dualboot to 7 so you can easily get back on XP if 7 doesn't work.
I actually once sped up a Windows XP laptop by installing Windows 7...

Antiviruses only protect against part of security problems. XP has lost support for more of the back end security issues
Tried 7, no luck, guess i'll have to stick with XP, it's mostly gonna be a secondary pc with not alot of personal info, so if there is some security issues, it does not bother me.

Laziness is not worth infecting the other computers on the network.

If you try 32bit Windows 7 you'll have a lot better luck too. A lot of xp drivers and almost all vista ones will work
